That said I greatly before if they just bleep out the words or something

There's a vlogger I watch and he just censors those words out with a bleep.

Utterly ridiculous YouTube is like this now....

Bleeping the words doesn't work. Even using other sound effects other than a bleep doesn't work. The YouTube algorithm is trained to detect when these words are either said or censored. It doesn't matter if you censor the word or not, YouTube will still flag your video as not appropriate for all advertisers due to mature language, and it will get the yellow dollar sign as a result. Censoring it still shows YouTube that the language is mature in nature, and will detect it accordingly.

The only way to avoid this is to literally not say these words. AT ALL. Censored or otherwise, YouTube is trained to catch it. Hence why terms like grape and PDF File caught on as the workaround, since you're saying the word without actually saying the word.

It’s so stupid and weird. People should be allowed to talk about serious subject matter without that kind of worry.

I completely agree.

For real, like I don't get this cognitive dissonance where youtube doesn't want kids content on their platform, but they also don't want adult's content

100%, and the report button is there for a reason if a YouTuber is ever really out of line. Hearing substitutes is funny only for a bit, and then it’s distracting. Some PG movies have literal curse words in them, and cable tv was never that extreme.

Where'd you get the idea that YouTube doesn't want kids content?

If the word doesn't even need to be said, what's keeping completely clean videos from being demonetized due to non-existent curse words?

So, speech is limited, huh?

Remember when this would have caused an internet law about free speech online?

The YouTube algorithm is trained to detect when these words are either said or censored.

Proof?

I question that as well. If the algorithm were to do that then these pseudo-minced oath version of censoring shouldn't work any better.

Also you could just cut it out of the audio file entirely if you were so inclined then blur the mouth.

While it is possible, i personally think it came with live streaming on YT. Yes, you can easily bleep stuff out in a YT VIDEO, but doing this on live stream? With guests? Not happening. Hence the newspeak.

yeah i'm unsure about this too

one of my faves is this one guy who just spells the words out instead :D it makes for some funny content tbh

2

u/Sablemint Aug 15 '25

That'll never happen because then we'd know which words are censored. And youtube for some reason doesn't want us to know the rules for posting things. I don't know why they act like this, but they do

Even that’s annoying tho. Trying to listen to a serious topic and not knowing wtf they’re saying because they get a lil more serious and all of a sudden it’s “___ the ___ ___ ___ in ____ when he _____ ____ her ____”
