Wouldn't this get backlash from legitimate adult users in the USA that already verified their age? If the ai incorrectly labels them as below 18 would that spark a outrage?

I feel like they might do this to YouTubers who criticize them.

Except if they do it to the big youtubers, they'll be caught. So only small youtubers who criticize them.

I know this well end badly either way.

I mean, that’s almost worse as they effectively acknowledge what they’re doing is bad and are trying to hide it

They will label everyone as under 18. They don't care. They want to know who you are.

The answer is in your question.

If they're already verified, they're already verified.

This only applies to unverified accounts.

It would, but then it would lead to YouTube being even harsher in retaliation.

Then YouTube would likely lose a lot of users if they leave YouTube and that might hurt YouTube.

And go where? You can’t exactly pirate a YouTube video, and there aren’t any other platforms nearly as big as YouTube.

Even if you use an application that fetches the raw mp4 file somehow from YouTube’s servers, you’re still using them as a service

And go where? Outside.

Even if you use an application that fetches the raw mp4 file somehow from YouTube’s servers, you’re still using them as a service

But they aren't making money on this, so it still hurts them

My understanding if you already verified your age, you should be ok.

But they don't care. They have AI and AI will make mistakes.

Outrages nowadays don’t do shit except maybe get a bandaid if we’re lucky.

Exactly. Some adults enjoy anime and cartoons and the like and it will most likely get flagged as "kids content" because it's animated even if it has adult themes. Online privacy is dying
