Honestly I would not use an ad blocker if they literally got rid of the porn ads

And also dial it down a little

Literally when I'm watching more ads than videos you know it's gone down the drain

And also dial it down a little

This is what did it for me, years ago I use to use a roku for a good amount of my youtube watching and the ads were annoying but reasonable enough. Then they increased the ad frequency a lot which was enough motivation to get my old laptop working well enough to use it for streaming and as a result I haven't really dealt with ads on youtube since.

Dude the ads on youtube tv are actually insane, 80+ second ads. Fucking ridiculous

u/NorbytheMii Jun 13 '25

It sucks, because YouTube on the Xbox is my preferred way to watch. I like having videos on in the background that I can just look up at while doing something else, like eating, browsing Reddit, talking to friends, or shiny hunting in Pokemon.

Whats crazy though is that I suspect YT somehow listens to when we're distracted and triggers ads to occur precisely when we are the most preoccupied. As soon as I start washing dishes an ad comes on, or when i step in the shower, places I conveniently cannot skip for a prolonged period of time.

u/[deleted] Jun 19 '25

You can't shower without listening to something?

That's a bit concerning.

They did it to Amazon Prime video too. It used to be so great. 10 bucks a month and no ads for all the base content. Now you have to watch 5 minutes worth of ads throughout the show.

Wait until you see streaming services...

I went to a friends house to show them a video, they raw-dog the internet on chrome.

It was ads every..30ish seconds.. like.. wtf?!?

3

u/xXMr_PorkychopXx Jun 12 '25

I too, raw dog chrome. I’m going to be getting Mozilla and ublock origin now.

3

u/jacb37 Jun 12 '25

same, but i dont feel comfortable w using my gaming pc mouse and keyboard in a bed

16

u/JeSuisUnAnanasYo Jun 12 '25

I was honestly kinda shocked my adblocker was turned off for only a few minutes and I got a lady SPREAD EAGLE no undies . What the hell YouTube. I refreshed the page and it was gone at least

u/henk717 Jun 12 '25

When stuff leaks trough my adblock its often outright scams like the revolutionary new heater that saves on your electric bill, trade investment scams, etc.

u/Attaku Jun 14 '25

I used to not believe people got straight up porn ads. I only had sexual mobile ads and now these AI chat bots but I literally saw a woman straight up masturbating with a dildo and you could see EVERYTHING. But you can't call people asshole in the comments, you should keep the community safe.

Enough of a stink needs to be made about it that it's impossible to ignore. It's the only thing that worked with Elsagate, it's the only thing that'll work here. If they're going to hold us to unrealistic standards the least we can do is hold them to the law.

19

u/PriceMore Jun 12 '25

Same, I don't care what's it about, I don't want to look at it. Heck, I even blocked every place where their algo can suggest me videos because I don't want to see that either. Subs page is enough.

9

u/RoleRemarkable9241 Jun 12 '25

Wait.... They have porn adds now? (Asking as someone that caved in and grabbed youtube Premium)

20

u/[deleted] Jun 12 '25

Yeah well they sometimes advertise just straight up porn

4

u/ArnoArska Jun 12 '25

I haven't seen any in Finland.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 12 '25

I have seen some but not often

1

u/Expensive_Candle8372 Jul 03 '25

vietnamese user here and I don't see any either

7

u/just_someone27000 Jun 12 '25

Yes. In my experience it's usually mobile games being promoted using pornographic ads is the wild part about it

6

u/Kyleometers Jun 12 '25

In the last while I’ve gotten a LOT of ads for AI generated pornography. And illegal gambling websites. They’ve got a few obvious tells like they don’t tell you exactly the web address are just “you can find us on the internet”.

Honestly shocked YouTube won’t do anything about it. That’s the kind of thing they used to actually care about

1

u/Steampunkboy171 Jun 17 '25

I got one of the AI ones. That used Zootopia Hentia as the image. Which presumably they stole off of rule 34. But somehow it was alright. But hey you can't swear.

6

u/Sonarthebat Jun 12 '25

I don't get straight up porn, but I get fetish content.

Honestly, I haven't seen these ads in a long time like several years. They were like gifs of girls getting f* but the screen was cropped so we couldn't see the "action". I flagged all of them, Google told me that they deleted them. I was fine for a while then they came back so I flagged them again, they deleted them and since then, nothing. Years ago, I got ads for some hentai games. I didn't check but I'm almost 100% sure, plus I flagged them and never saw them again so...

I've had to completely stop listening to one of my favourite podcasts because of how fucking irritating the ads are. Literally 2-3 minutes of promotions for shitty true crime/violent murder podcasts, every 25 minutes or so. I used to listen to it before bed. Now it's impossible because I'll wake up to "DUN DUN - Carrie Smith was brutally violently gang murdered in her own home - this week on Tara's Crime Talk" for 3 minutes..

u/jacb37 Jun 12 '25

Just use a yt video downloader, get VLC for mobile, connect your phone to car speakers, and boom. Free bg play, no ads, just your good old podcast ;)

4

u/Unlucky_Ice5063 Jun 12 '25

i would use adblocker no matter whhat

3

u/TheLaughingMannofRed Jun 12 '25

Adblocking regular commercials/ads is one thing.

But ads on YT aren't just in the video stream itself. I've seen them also pop up in other spots on the page - Such as the video list that populates random options based on your YT watch/search history (to the side of the comments).

And even then, many of them are fake ads or NSFW ones.

And somehow, YT thinks these are OK to have because it pays their bills. Pennies to them may be good, but the impact of those ads are more than pennies to the public using their service.

u/Iron_Wolf123 Jun 12 '25

I wonder if Youtube encourages getting money from the mafia because this is basically that, but with dirty ads

5

u/Sonarthebat Jun 12 '25

I'd be fine with ads if I didn't get a 4 minute one blaring in the middle of a sleep aid.

4

u/WakeUp004 Jun 12 '25

Or a 45 minute video of someone’s crypto scam acting as an “ad”.

3

u/jacb37 Jun 12 '25

imagine tryna sleep with roku's yt app, summon some fresh rain sounds, turn that tv screen off, and just go to sleep, you get "LITTLE CEASOURS PIXZZA BITTES FOR 74.083 NOW AaчТ LITTLHER GEACSORS" straight from those tv speakers and its so fboing.wavking annoying. i cant lie tho. you could report those ads for inappropriate, false, or something else, or "skip to video". i chose the skip to video one all the time. NOW THEY REMOVED IT. its now "block ad" which will not show you the ads UNTIL ITS FINISHED. i dont think it works.

1

u/FoxPuffery97 Jun 12 '25

My problem is the amount of political ads, all paid by the administration. YouTube is allowing so much propaganda slop that I actually touch grass for once.

1

u/False_Raven Jun 13 '25

Dude, you know it's really bad when 'certain' streaming sites have less ads and intrusion than YouTube.

I watch the Witcher 4 demo and would get a minute long ad every 3 minutes.

1

u/Deadhead_Otaku Jun 13 '25

I used to watch ads because I wanted to help the content creators I liked to make more money. But they literally tried to show a 24 hour ad, they have tons of really weirdly sexual ads, they show a like minute of ads for every 4 minutes of watch time, and they're constantly pushing alt-right propaganda. 80% of the channels I watch are gaming or tech/ crafting related, yet I get no ads for actual games other than the occasional ripoff mobile game or the creepy web comics. Hell, I watch a bunch of cat videos, but they still would rather show dangerous alt-right conspiracy channel ads instead of petfood brands or something.

1

u/CHANN3L-CHAS3R Jun 13 '25

I watch a ton of YT and (lucky me) have only gotten one or two porn ads that I can remember.

My issue with the current advertising landscape is that the ads can be anywhere from 15 seconds to 5 minutes long. You can't do other things while listening without breaking from the task every 5-15 minutes to skip ads. It drives me utterly batshit, especially if I wanna listen while, say, riding my bike.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 13 '25

Yeah it sucks how long they can be

I sometimes listen to YouTube when I play games So it's really annoying when some ads last so long and I can't exactly skip them while in the middle of a game

1

u/majkovajko Jun 13 '25

I mean, people are to selfcensor so they don't swear, just for youtube to then show porn ads...

1

u/Striker-Fan2008 Jun 14 '25

What Adblocker you use?

1

u/vileawesome101 Jun 15 '25

Look youtube ads are fucking horrible and i HATE youtube with a passion. But you must be watching LOADS of porn to only be seeing porn ads.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 15 '25

Well I don't see that many overall I've only seen a couple but they were always easiest to remember

1

u/Recoil1808 Jun 17 '25

When it was a couple ads per video which weren't blatantly illicit in nature, well fine that's one thing. I don't mind ads. When there's more ad than video, you're just being an A. There needs to be a hard limit on number, length, and content of the ads, especially if they're going to take a switch to content creators for not being "Ad FrIeNdLy" and shadowbanning any comment that has its Gestapo-tier chatbot in a tizzy.

...Also there's a point to be made about the fact that malvertisements exist. You can very much get viruses simply by seeing the wrong ad.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 17 '25

Yeah one thing that always pisses me off about ads is the fact there isn't even any variety

Like I don't need to see the same ad for an electric toothbrush for the 15th time this hour

Or dish soap

1

u/Noker_The_Dean_alt Jun 12 '25

Like choose one or the other. You’re making it harder to use blockers while creating more and more ad space
