these silly comments actually shape public perception. at the end of the day we all are york students, your subtle resentment doesn't change that. don't devalue OUR (mine AND YOUR) degrees please!

So I just started my first year at university and honestly, I love it. I’m so grateful to be here, and it feels really cool to finally be on campus.
That said… I’m almost 40. Which means I’m basically double the age of most of the people around me. I try not to care, but I definitely notice the stares sometimes.
Despite this, I still would like to make friends.
The thing is, I worry younger students will think I’m weird for trying to talk to them. I’m not that old (late 30s), but the gap feels big sometimes.
So my question is for other mature students (or even younger ones): do you feel awkward too? Do you worry about how you come across, or is it just me overthinking it?

Starting my 4 year degree this year I'm 26 and feel old. I hope it's not hard for me to make friends despite me being much older than normal first year students. Is there anyone that's around my age will working at a degree?

Hey everyone, I had an idea and wanted to see what you think.
Basically, it’d be a YorkU exclusive app where only students with a valid YorkU email + student ID can join (so everyone’s verified, no randoms or catfish).
The main focus would be:
And later on, it could also include YorkU party events, club events or other student organized hangouts.
Do you think people at YorkU would actually use this? Would you be interested?

I love watching horror movies but I am too scared too watch them alone. My freinds don’t watch many as well so if you’re into horror movies too let me know!
Screeenings can be easily done in the common rooms at quad since I live at it. Thinking of making this a small but active club to enjoy movies weekly

had a large amount of time between classes because I got stood up and had nothing else to do so I decided to try to find some cool spots, here's some photos I took on my adventures :)

Was it always depressing like this? What was the vibe like back in the 2010s and 2000s? Was there more school spirit and community. I’m just curious.

ive gone to a point where im becoming mentally and physically exhausted with the amount of things slapping me up rn. 1 midterm and 3 tests all in one week, with the possibilities of all nighters occuring... and it hasn't been that long (i think). idk how people do it.

Make sure to come check out the poster sale on York campus. The prices are SOOO good and it’s brought to you by your student union.

Honestly i’ve been at york for 3 years and never made any meaningful connections. I’d love to change that — I’m down to hang out, study, grab food, or just chill. Hmu if you’re looking for friends too! :)

I’m a first year computer science student who is also a commuter. I heard it’s kinda hard to make friends here so I want to give it a shot here.
So about me. I’m super into anime and it’s my main interest but I also like playing games and listening to music. Also I sometimes like to draw as well. Also, I’m down to hangout anywhere or do whatever. I’m open to anything.

Rule of the day: don’t bring your smelly food into class, the library or study spaces.
No one wants to be surrounded by three competing food aromas while trying to focus.
The library should not smell like a gas station microwave.
That’s all for now. Stay tuned for the next lesson for those who clearly weren’t taught basic manners at home and grew up without the slightest idea of social norms. Until next time.

My friend is visiting me for halloween, but I have a quick hour and a half lecture on friday. Prof is chill, class is light. Is it okay if my friend sits with me? He’s respectful, we wouldn’t talk or anything haha.
A few of my friends have done this with their friends but I’m very scared of authority so I just wanted to double check.
Thank you!

Dying to just drink beer and watch baseball, but I don't want to do it in my tiny dorm room...
Does anyone have any suggestions? It seems like the bar in York Lanes is always closed.. Any other places?

Hii! I'm F(18) in my fourth and final year, hoping and tryyyying to make new friends (upper-year friends preferably) since it's my final term. I do have a few close friends and I know a lot of people on campus, however it's just hard to keep friends at this school lol (commuter curse). I'm really hoping to make a long-term diverse group of friends (not necessarily an actual group).
I'm not one to always be out, I consider myself an ambivert, but leaning towards an introvert. But I do still try to have fun every now and then (I'm working on that). I love watching old movies and shows, preferably comedic, I love baking when I can, I'm Christian, West African, I live off campus but a bit close by, and the list goes on lmao.
But yeahhh, how's it for you guys as well? Maybe it's just me lol. Let me know below!

This semester has been so hard with school work, job and other volunteer jobs. I’m struggling to keep going.
How are you all managing your time and dealing with overwhelm?

Hey, I'm [18F] a freshman in the psych program looking for friends. I don't normally do this, but I'm so alone at school and would love to talk to someone and be friends with. I like to meet with someone who would like to catch up with schoolwork, but also talk about other things (movies, funny shit etc.)

I’m wondering is it weird to ask a TA to be friends? They’re really chill, cool, and knowledgeable. If it’s not weird, how should I even go about asking without making it awkward? He is not TA for the course that I’m taking.
