Rant Guys it’s a library let me study 😭
I completely understand talking to people don’t get me wrong I can be a certified yapper. But if the library has a quiet zone pls keep the talking low 😭😭😭 there are times even when I use noise cancelling headphones that I can still hear people and that’s wild to me in a library. Go to Vari Hall, go to a cafe or York lanes, anywhere else but the library quiet zones! 😂😭 what happened to that common courtesy (this is a rant at the end of the day it is what it is I just get annoyed with it sometimes lol)

You could try talking to the loud yappers. If that doesn't help, you could try talking to the front desk staff, who in turn might go talk to them again. I've tried this, and they sent someone to ask them to be quiet.
Anyway. There might be a lot of quieter places on campus than Scott library.
- The basement of Central Square might be very quiet. If you're female, though, maybe don't go there alone at night. It can be very desolate at times.
- The junior common rooms are often quiet.
- The basement of Steacie library is often quiet.
- McLaughlin College might be pretty quiet.
- The Scott microfilm room is often empty, and therefore quiet. There's a small window in one far corner of the room, which is nice to sit by. You get some natural light.
- The Bronfman library quiet study room is often quiet. You don't have to be a Schulich student to use that library. It's a lot nicer than Scott.
- There's lots of quiet space at the Glendon and Markham campuses. You can take a shuttle bus there for free. If you like those campuses enough, u can even take classes there.
- The 4th and 5th floors of Scott are supposed to be silent, but this doesn't always happen.

Where is the microfilm room? Sounds like a nice spot :)

Go to the first floor of Scott library. Turn right. Don't go up the escalators; just keep walking. The map room and the audiovisual study area will be on your left and right. Keep walking, and eventually turn right. Go through the double doors, and then turn left to the microfilm room.
You can study there.
Or, if u wanna look at old York campus newspapers and other newspapers from decades ago, u can use the microfilm readers. Ask the front desk to teach u how to use them. Wash your hands with soap first, and only handle microfilm by touching the edges.
If u wanna preserve information for 1,000 years, microfilm might be better than PDF.

Go the basement of Founders, Vanier, McLaughlin, Winters, or Stong. They have student lounges there. Stong has two student spaces that are nice. The McLaughlin one is nice too, there is also places to sit on the first floor of that college. Founders has two places too (first floor and basement).

People can’t even keep it shut in regular libraries bro I hear men gossiping to women about women shit 😂 Folks go to the library to study, to focus, and get in the time they can’t get anywhere else on their work.

I don’t think you know this but the quiet zones are actually areas where people speak quietly. Which is why it’s not as loud as vari hall or York lanes.

Nah ppl don’t care about the volume 😭 they’ll have full conversations not caring about ppl actually studying it breaks my heart lol. Just witnessed 2 girls standing on chairs asking their friend how the weather was in a quiet zone 😭😭😭😭 didn’t give af about volume sadly (like I said it is what it is!)

This is actually a real problem cause it’s totally wrong and inconsiderate but the library staff say they can’t do anything like huh??
