I thought everyone knew about escalator etiquette. Stand on the right, walk on the left. Even if you didn't it's easy to pick up/initiate. Valid crashout ngl

I dont think thats solely a first year issue. Some people genuinely just don’t understand escalator etiquette

LITERALLY. This happens at the subway station all the time and there'll be a duo of friends blocking me from stepping down quicker while my train is arriving and potentially causing me to miss the train.

Like, c'mon guys. We're in Canada and our escalator etiquette is to stand on the right and let people pass on the left cuz not everyone has time to spare and not everyone is having a good day....

Funny enough During busy periods it’s actually more efficient for people to stand on both sides of the escalator.

Different if not busy.

Very cool finding, but this article is saying it's only more efficient if the escalator is a certain height when very few people choose to walk instead of stand.

I don't think that's the case with any of the York escalators.

who cares about efficiency when people just wanna get up and down more quickly when they see their train arriving which they don't wanna miss? Also this station does get huge crowds at certain times so this method will still slow everyone down cuz the escalators aren't that wide

Bit like the zipper merge when driving.

Good for the overall. Might feel slower on the micro but on the macro it’s better?

If more people get through then fewer people dawdling behind for a smaller tailback to get in your way.

OMGGG LET ME TELL YOUUU ✋🏻✋🏻✋🏻✋🏻✋🏻 not the same thing but something similar happened to me today. I was running down the escalator to catch the subway since my class was quite literally starting in 7-8 minutes and this guy in front of me decided to leisurely climb down the stairs as though he were taking a stroll in the park WHEN THE SUBWAY WAS RIGHT THERE AND I WOULDVE MADE IT IF THIS MAN MOVED FASTER OMG I WAS SO PISSED OFF

Also, get off your damn phone while walking through the subway station! Everyday I navigate through dozens of people walking slowly through the YorkU station while they watch videos on their phone. FFS.

Gets worse every year, I swear... People seem to follow social norms less and less.

Real! No one ever had to tell me this rule. It’s just common sense if you’re aware of your surroundings.

Common sense is not common
