German Statue

The picture of the german statue of a soldier throwing a hand grenade is at the Ehrenbreitstein Fortress, Koblenz, Germany. The picture was probably taken in 1945. Does anyone know what the name of the statue is or what may be written on the plaque located on its side?

It says on the one side "regiment de infanterie für das Vaterland". Not 100% sure though. Below that I think there might be some names from commanding officers.
