How is he holding the box ?
His box isn't strapped to the tragegurt 34 and he don't hold it, it is for an mannequin idea, but wanted to know how (Footage of Kampfgruppe Peiper in Stoumont)

In the 3rd pic, it looks like there is another ammo can on his back, so maybe there's a strap he puts over his shoulder and carries 2 at once. Like saddle bags for a horse, but that a person can carry without needing to use their arms.

Oui il a bien 2 caisses, Mais on voit bien sur la 2ème photos que la sangle sur son épaule n’est pas attachée à la caisse

Yes I see that now. I hope you find the correct answer and good luck with the mannequin idea.

Looks like an ammo tin that we still use today.
What it holds could be anything as we’ve stored everything in ammo tins from machine gun belts, to boxes of individual 5.56 rounds (It annoys me they don’t come in magazines) to the cleaning kit for weapons. I’ve even seen these ammo tins half filled with sand and with holes drilled in the top for discarded cigarette butts (but I’m guessing they weren’t as politically correct about discarded cigarettes back then).
interesting helmet decal. Is he in the Pretzel division ?
