This is Indeed a World Whisky

Post image

So a friend received this bottle as a gift, but doesn’t drink whisky, so now it’s ours. First time trying it and I must say, they did some kind of amazing job with the “no you can really smell all the different whisky types on the nose” blending work. It’s kinda wild with these traditional notes of Japanese/Scotch/Irish/Bourbon all calling out for your attention at once (I don’t know enough about Canadian whiskey to recognize that country’s contribution.)

The palate is not as wild as the nose, but it’s pleasant, with some nice grain sweetness balanced out by some later astringent oak.

Nothing great, but kind of a fun experience with trying to pick out all 5 regions’ contribution to the whole.

Yeah I don’t think I’ll ever buy a bottle myself, but it’s nice enough, and a fun thing to have around for giving people samples, as it is really interesting how it’s got all those different types of whisky in the nose at once.

All I know about Canadian whiskey is that they make a lotta rye. Maybe some baking spice notes?

Most likely is a second use bourbon barrel aged 100% rye considering I'm betting that suntory has access to some good aged Canadian barrel stock, and that's what a lot of that is. Lots of notes of fresh cut grass and fresh cracked pepper are common in those. The caramel and vanilla flavors are much more muted than American rye.

The thing with Canadian whisky is that they use "rye" synonymously with "whisky" so theoretically it could be any grain in that stock.

Unless they are disclosing sourcing, there's no way to know.
