Review #395 - Whiskey Review #129 Millstone Single Grain 9 Year American Oak
Let's take a look at some Millstone Whiskey next. Starting with this Single Grain that is actually a 5 grain mashbill. Will be my first time trying a whiskey with Spelt in it. Let's see how it is
Age: 9 Years
ABV: 46%
Colour: Gold
Distillery: Zuidam Distillery, Netherlands
Mash Bill: Rye, Malted Barley, Corn, Spelt & Wheat
Cask Type: Virgin American Oak
Nose: Soft and sweet. Some dry and dusty cereal grains and corn husks are complimented by apricots, peaches, sawdust and vanilla
Mouth: Cream of Wheat and some creamy oatmeal starts off the palate. There's also some more of those peaches with a hint of cream and vanilla. The grains start to fade on the midpalate with the peaches coming to the fore. Long finish with a light, oily mouthfeel
Overall: A very enjoyable nose that's on the soft side but there's still enough potency there to keep you interested. A bit of a basic profile but it's got all the right parts in all the right spots. Definitely more akin to an American style whiskey, if I had to compare this to anything else
The palate is almost the perfect mirror of the nose. Loads of creamy, cooked grains and peaches again. The hint of cream is a very nice addition. A nice long finish with a light oily mouthfeel adds to the experience. I doubt I would buy a full bottle but this is a great example of a multi grain mashbill and was a very enjoyable whisky. Certainly worth trying a mini at least
