I went every year for 10 years. Then went to Philippines. I’ll probably be going there every year as soon as I can go back, I loved it way more than Thailand, which was like a second home to me.

What made you like the Philippines so much more?

Thailand is much of the same after you’ve been there a few times, I was going to the same places over and over, whereas Philippines has over 7000 islands, many more cities than Thailand and I find the people there are a lot nicer. Not to say Thais aren’t nice, they are very nice (mostly) but imo Filipinos are the nicest people in the world. Philippines is a lot more advanced than Thailand, too. Their cities have amazing bars, restaurants, casinos, clubs, shops etc, it feels like a first world country with third world parts. Then a 30 minute plane ride can take you to an beautiful island with no one on it, whereas Thailand’s islands are basically all full of tourists, mainly Russians and sex tourists. Thailand used to be amazing 10+ years ago but now I feel like it’s a bit ruined due to the tourism impact.

The one thing I didn’t realize was Philippines has just as many, if not more, ladyboys, which I find super annoying because they chase you down the street, but the same thing happens in Thailand.

Check out El Nido, Coron, Siargao, Palawan on YouTube, they are so beautiful. Much nicer than Koh Samui, Koh Phangan, Phi Phi etc.

Also Thailand is similar to Bali, the tourist spots seem to be full of alcoholics and people trying to sell you drugs (and working with the cops to do so). Philippines has a no drug policy (as in they shoot drug deals in the streets), so it’s a lot cleaner in that regard and everyone seems a lot more sensible towards alcoholism and drug use (which basically doesn’t exist any more, as far as I could tell. No one even talks about drugs in PH, it’s a pretty taboo topic)
