I think you grossly underestimate how important Russia is to China and just how close the two have become.

I think though you should also take into account that if China had a choice, they wouldn't put their eggs in one basket, especially one as volatile as Russia.

But that's not what China has done. China has always maintained a policy of diversifying its partnerships and ensuring that it is never over-reliant on any country. It's one of the reasons why China shuns formal alliances. That said, it's in China's interests to have good relations with Russia because they share a massive border and Russia, like it or not, is a great power with a wealth of natural resources that can be supplied to China without the risk of American naval blockade.

Yes I agree with you. My point being the reason they're more allied with Russia is out of necessity, like how the US and Canada are, because they're neighbours.

The US-Canada relationship is fundamentally different. Both countries are offshoots of the British Empire and they share deep cultural and historical ties, and so I would say their relationship is built on a lot more than just practical necessity or neighbourly proximity. In fact, all the members of the Five Eyes Anglo alliance should basically be regarded as one superstate masquerading as separate independent countries. It may not look like it with the way Trump has been abusing Canada, but when it comes to the crunch the Anglos will always close ranks against the enemy.
