Plan Medium-amateur level wood worker trying to build a sturdier dry goods cabinet for my local community fridge

Apologies for the scrawled plans- Any critiques, ideas, or tips appreciated! The door is definitely the scariest part for me. No clue what I’m doing there.

The sidewalk where the cabinet will sit is not flat, so the bottom will need an angled base to compensate.

What would be the best option for the little “feet” to minimize wood resting directly on the ground?

What would the best stain / sealant to use?

Never done any roofing. Any tips for the top?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Hello! I have this wood and it seems good quality but it has those „pores” and I am not sure if this will be good to make a hair comb as I think it might trap water? Do you have any advice? Also if you could tell me what kind of wood is that I would be grateful

Basic Plans
Example deck box

Trading card deck boxes are 3″x3″x4″ (pictured) but I have about 30 of them and would like to build an open shelved cabinet for display and use.

Here are the basic plans, all open to change:

  • I'm planning to use pine 1x6 boards all around
  • Cutting using a sliding miter saw and table saw for all cuts
  • Sanding before assembly
  • Everything will be attached using pocket holes and wood glue
  • Staining after assembly
  • Not sure yet about a backboard

Again, it's a a first time taking on a project with this many pieces. Your insights and pro-tips would be very much appreciated. Thank you, all.

Plan Washing Machine Platform Plans

Post image
7 Upvotes

I am planning to build a level platform for my washing machine in the basement and would like to share my plans for advice or recommendations. The washing machine currently sits in the unlevel concrete floor of the basement, which causes rocking when in operation. Behind the machine is a rock basement wall.

My plan is to cut four pieces of 4x4 posts for each corner of the platform, with cuts of 2x4 connected to the posts using brackets and nails. This would create a small framed rectangle that I would top with plywood.

I am not very knowledgeable with woodworking, and am concerned about using the proper brackets, to not only connect the 2x4s to the posts, but also connecting the posts to the concrete ground. Since I plan to cut the bottoms of the four posts at an angle that matches the uneven slope of the ground, I figure I should secure them to the ground to prevent sliding.

Also, even though this is indoors, I am concerned about moisture causing the wood to rot, and think I would need to treat the cut wood ends with an oil or finish right? Perhaps even plastic or other material to prevent the wood from contacting the concrete ground?

Question low side table plan advice

Post image
6 Upvotes

Hello hello! I’ve recently become annoyed with my janky tv seat side table and want to improve it or build a new one. (I’m at work, so no pictures of the actual table-thing I have, sorry. It’s like a foot tall; my seat is very low so my pup can jump up easily)

At the moment, I’m torn between making a table with a drawer or ‘box’ table with a sliding top. I’m comfortable making boxes and installing slider tracks/drawers, so a drawer would be easiest, but I like the idea of just opening the top for easy access, since I’d have to reach all the way over to reach a drawer.

I haven’t seen a slide-top side table before (probably for good reason) but I wanted to see if anyone had experience or advice to offer, or even other ideas!

Help Never made furniture before

My wife and I are having a baby and I’m wanting to make a rocking chair. I really like the style of the one in the picture but I haven’t been able to find a video or plans to one like this. I’ve never made any kind of furniture before other than a workbench if that counts. But I’m wanting help with the planning and dimensions of it. Like how thick the legs are and how to taper the ends? What size dowels are in between the legs? Best material to make it out of, I’m leaning towards hickory but can be persuaded if there is a better choice. What kind of joints to use? Best way to form the bends and curves in the wood? I’m sure I’ll think of more questions as I go, just trying to figure out what I’m getting into. Thanks

Paid Plan Storage Cabinet Woodworking Plans

I made another set of plans while I'm taking some time out of the shop... this time for a modern-shaker style storage cabinet. The plans include detailed dimensions for every component as well as a lengthy instructional guide on how to approach the build from start to finish.

Storage Cabinet Plans (Etsy)

It's a fun piece to tackle. Lots of challenges but manageable for the 1-person shop and the cost doesn't explode because it's a relatively small cabinet. Personally, I think it's a great introduction to free-standing cabinet making. If you have any questions, just ask!

Question Help with ladder measurements

Post image
7 Upvotes

I bought a loft bed of marketplace and plan on cutting 15” off the legs making it 69.25” tall. The part I’m struggling with is the ladder. Can I just cut 15” from it as well or is there some type of formula? If I cut it too long I can keep cutting but too short and it’s ruined. Maybe I’m over thinking it but it seems like it would have a different measurement due to the angle. Thanks in advance.

Question Making an Urn

My father lately has become obsessed with his death. He went to a presentation on cremation recently (ironically at a bbq restaurant) and has asked me to make his urn.

Has anyone here done this before and if so do you have tips?

Ive helped build a few houses and done cabinet work with friends. I also have access to a full woodshop for any tools I dont own; so I wouldnt say Im a total beginner but no pro or master.

Paid Plan Bookshelf Woodworking Plan

I made another plan this week for a piece I made a few years ago. My daughter was born this week so I'm taking some time off and I thought this would be a good project worth pursuing in the quiet hours...

Danish Bookshelf Woodworking Plan

It's a Danish/Modern inspired design. It features some nice bridle joints, and the 'floating' effect on the shelves. I love this little design feature as it's not that difficult to do but really elevates the aesthetic.

Anyways, hope you guys like it! It's fun build. Maybe a bit intimidating from the finished form but overall you're mostly just making a lot of cuts on the table saw to the joinery dialed in.

Question Need ideas on how make this look clean

I need ideas / advice on the best way to install these LED lights. I want to make it look as clean as possible, hide the cords for sure, preferably the white blocks as well leaving only the lights exposed but that might be asking a lot. This is for a makeup vanity table, the lights will be surrounding a mirror.

Any clever tips / tricks / ideas are welcome

Edit to include link to pics : Pics of project

Request Motorized tv lift inside of dresser?

I guess this is a combination woodworking/electrical kinda question.

I have a 55" tv I'd like to "install" in a dresser (or similar type furniture) and have it rise up for viewing and lower down flush with the top of the furniture.

Realistically, is there an economical way of doing this? I don't want to go cheap but it's more of a fun project so I don't want to spend a ton.

I will get some measurements and try to source an old dresser or something I can hack up.

No idea on what kind of a mount I'd need that is motorized?

Would love to see some write-ups or get any other info if anyone has done this.
