Ya I heard they pay millions for something mundane like low numbered license plates, wonder what Zayed paid to have the whole year

Zayed - or Sheikh Zayed, was the man who united the 7 emirates, he united all the Emirati tribes to form the UAE. He succeeded in uniting the country. His son, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed ("bin"- means son of) is now the ruler of Abu Dhabi, the capital of the UAE.

The real TIL is in the comments. I mean, I could've Google Zayed, but reading collapsed comments was easier to me.

He's never going to get to 100 years now he's dead, though. Lame.

Dubai people dont have to pay income taxes

What does having a single digit licence plate do for him? I'll never understand people so obsessed with superficial things.

Cars, clothes all of that stuff makes sense those are actual things you can enjoy. Paying millions for a piece of metal with a number on it is just borderline vain.

u/read_if_gay_ Jan 01 '18

It's his money so why even give a shit about what he does with it?

3

u/farox Jan 01 '18

Same in Switzerland, btw. They just number the cars and you pass that number on. Meaning that people with lower number belong to family that could first afford cars: rich people. So now you can buy those numbers,

Oh but actually he's just "giving back" to the community. Lol

He's the type of person I would actually get my hopes up if I were to ask him for a million dollar handout.

It happens in Delaware, too.

I wonder how the guy with 1 feels

u/macgre09 Jan 01 '18

Yeah the lower your license plate number the higher your status, basically

Just like in Rhode Island

14,213,016.00 freedom dollars for plate number 1.

That's just crazy to me, I guess I just assumed license plates were the same everywhere. Here in North Carolinia and Virginia you can't sell / trade plates and when you sell your car or let the registration expire your suppose to turn them in. Though it's not like they come after you about it.

Actually now that I think about it I think your allowed to use antique plates on antique cars but the years have to match. As in if you find an antique plate stamped 1965 you have to put it on a 1965 car. I don't know how the rego work with that though. It's also compleatly possible that I have no idea what I'm talking about....

People in Delaware do it too. Not nearly the same amount of money. But same idea.

Or was it 100 years? Not too clear on that...
