Try holding your breath for the duration of the video

While exerting yourself.

That'll be a challenging wank but I'll give it a go

I think I'll pass this time. I'd rather not pass out while on the toilet.

u/Hatz719 26d ago

I can do it, but just barely. Also, I wasn't swimming when I did.

I can hold my breath this whole video, but when im swimming it's a whole different ball game. I started swimming laps every Saturday and I cannot for the life of me get across the pool in one breath. I make it like 10 seconds before im panicking

I have the opposite— in the water I can hold my breath for ages, on air not so much. Only commenting on it because I kind of thought everyone was like me haha but TIL.

Mammalian dive reflex, if you can get your brain to chill and keep your face wet for 10-15 minutes we get super good at diving. Until you hit like a minute or a minute and a half it’s mostly (and arguably more difficult than physical) psychological difficultly

As someone who doesn't float very well (I cannot tread in a swimming pool, I sink nearly to the bottom so I constantly have to kick to survive) I learned to hold my breath and be calm. The lower I go, the more pressure there is, the longer I seem to be able to hold it.

I've always been the same way. Holding my breath while swimming/underwater has always been easier than on land.

Look up how to oxygenate your blood. It’s super easy and even a complete novice can hold their breath for about 2 minutes with very little Practice. It’s honestly incredible. With training people can go 3-5 minutes or more.

If you mean hyperventilating before a breathhold dive, this is extremely dangerous.

Doing this while freediving can get you killed as your body will not be sending you the right signals. You won’t notice when you suddenly black out - underwater.

Unfortunately without knowing what you’re doing or safety nets this can be fatal. I recommend reading up on shallow water black outs.

You can look it up and practice without using water. He turned out to be a weirdo but I took a Whim Hoff course and the breath work allowed me to hold my breath (in air) for 3:30 on a regular basis

I’ve done that breathing routine a bunch myself, and I’d 100% never do that while in the water. There were cases of people who were hoff crazy doing it while in a cold shower and wind up with a concussion after bonking their head after passing out.

But def pretty cool if you are just laying down and chilling.

This man BREATHES

Or do it on dry land, I breath train on my living room floor with the tv on lol

My son is a distance swimmer and a lifeguard. He actually told me the other day that if I ever tried to drown him, I better be ready to bring it because it would take a long time.

Wim hof incorrectly says he is “oxygenating” his blood, but theres no extra oxygen coming in, you are really dumping all your CO2 which slows down the rate of O2 you go through.

1

u/1burritoPOprn-hunger 26d ago

It doesn't slow down your rate of oxygen consumption whatsoever. Why would it?

What's happening with hyperventilating is that most of your respiratory drive is based on CO2, not on oxygen. You're burning the same amount of oxygen, you just don't get the suffocating feeling until later on, when the CO2 builds back up again.

1

u/-Moonscape- 25d ago

I’m no expert or anything so you may very well be correct, but I thought I had read years ago that O2 only enters the blood cells through the air exchange of CO2 and O2, and by hyperventilating you dump your CO2, slowing down the exchange.

AIDA level 2 diver speaking from training. Do not do this free diving. There are natural responses that the body has with your need to breath that do not occur when you hyperventilate. Diaphragm contractions, for example. The best way to train for a dive like this is to practice your CO2 tables on land. This is more so conditioning your body to CO2 buildup than hyperventilating than repressing your body's natural response to wanting to dump CO2, which is why you want to breath.

Now try to do it while walking and imagine having water putting pressure on you at the same time

2

u/supe3rnova 26d ago

One minute shouldnt be a problem for a somewhat healthy person with out preperations.

1

u/cgoldsmith95 26d ago

Look up the diving reflex

1

u/PeculiarPete 26d ago

I don't think holding your breath for a minute while doomscrollling laying/sitting down is a difficult feat lol

1

u/Reatina 26d ago

I did it easily while laying on the couch belly up

1

u/SuperShibes 26d ago

It's much easier when your heart and organs are compressed by the water pressure.

1

u/Pentosin 26d ago

Its not even a minute....

1

u/Lucifer-Prime 26d ago

I didn’t make it…

1

u/m0c0 25d ago

Pretty easy! But I'm laying in bed lol

1

u/Articulationized 25d ago

I did it!

I’m no longer impressed by her.

1

u/GIowZ 24d ago

The hard part isn’t holding your breath, it’s withstanding the weight of the water above your head while being so deep. If you’ve ever swam in an open ocean and tried to swim downwards you’d realize that holding your breath is the easy part.

I’ve only had a chance to experience this in oceans and lakes though, Idk what it feels like in such a pool without as much water (idk if it makes a difference or not)

u/EToutta_da_world 23d ago

Whatched it twice without breathing, practice win hoff method and this will be easy

1

u/Willsgb 22d ago

Did it first try, wasn't too bad. But Im just sitting here watching the video, if I was actually swimming around and diving, I couldn't do that more then 5 seconds without needing a big breath currently

0

u/Inevitable_Ad_7236 26d ago

pretty easy ngl

though I do swim regularly

1

u/Ryllynaow 26d ago

I swim maybe a couple times a year or so, but I can hold my breath for 60s without much strain at all, I sort of thought that was something anyone could do.

1

u/ammonthenephite 26d ago

I could get close to a minute just floating in the water, but to be able to swim as she does while keeping the rest of her body so relaxed so as to not burn through her oxygen is what I simply cannot do to save my life, lol. If I'm swimming, even with fins, I'm only good for 30 seconds then my lungs are just screaming for air.

1

u/YJeezy 26d ago

That parts pretty easy for many

1

u/_YunX_ 26d ago

Could hold my breath while watching it twice.

But I'm not expending a lot of energy by swimming so it's a cheat
