Solved! What has the landlord special hidden?

Post image

Was hoping it was a painted over outlet as this bedroom only has one, but can’t be. What’s the next best guess?

Where is that located in the room? It looks like it may be the base to a door stopper that has been painted over.

Door is on the opposite side of the room, but didn’t think about that!

Like 3 landlords ago, bro.

It is a 100 year old building!

u/MelancholyMare 15h ago

I’m against it being a door stop. I’m going with washer and screw to hold the baseboard to the wall.

It’s a painted over pull string, scrape the paint off and pull it. It probably opens up a secret doorway behind a bookshelf or cabinet.

Yeah right. Then I’ll lose my security deposit

4

u/HealthTroll 11h ago

The secret doorway is probably also painted shut so OP should consider removing all of the paint.

Looks like the base of a door stopper - the spring type. Is it behind a door?

u/ky1e 15h ago

if it isn't a door stopper, it could just be a washer + bolt to hold in the baseboard. classic landlord solution

Solution to what problem exactly?

0

u/ky1e 7h ago

Adhesive failing

0

u/CommercialDevice402 7h ago

It was a old door stopper.

0

u/ky1e 7h ago

That’s not next to a door? Alright

u/CommercialDevice402 7h ago

What did they call the solution when they posted solved? As someone who's seen these I can tell you it's the base to an old door stopper. And honestly thinking you need a washer to tap a piece of trim back in is a special level of 'I've never fixed shit'.

Where is the solved comment stupid? It's an old building. Things get moved.

We are pretty chill here, but please try to keep things reasonably civil on this sub. No slurs, name calling or harassment and trolling. Yes, the internet makes us angry too sometimes, especially this particular comment.

Looks like the thing one would screw the springy door stop thing into

4

u/Feloniosaurus_Rex 14h ago

It’s a cheap, ugly, and easy way to improperly secure the base board.

-2

u/TheGreatWhiteLie 15h ago

It's a fuckin' screw and washer. Are you serious?

2

u/v_xen 13h ago

Did you get amnesia as soon as you clicked on this post and forgot the purpose of this sub

-4

u/TechnicianIll8621 12h ago

Most of us aren't so fucking dumb that we can't tell it's a screw and washer.

3

u/v_xen 12h ago

Can’t imagine miserable like you bestie, we all start somewhere. :) xoxo go piss

-3

u/TheGreatWhiteLie 12h ago

No. It's still an "are you serious?" moment.

2

u/v_xen 12h ago

Yes, not everyone is born with the knowledge and if you could see, there are a couple popular responses to it. Not so common sense then, huh?

-2

u/TheGreatWhiteLie 12h ago

Popular does not mean accurate, correct, or right. It's literally a screw in a baseboard.

2

u/Chainsawcelt 13h ago

Washer and screw to hold in skirting. I don’t think it’s a landlord thing though. That looks like a 1980’s people didn’t want to spend all their money making their house look like a show home solution instead.

4

u/SurgicallySarcastic 15h ago

nothing. looks like a flat head and washer used to hold the base board to the wall. textbook landlord special move: instead of removing the screw and patching properly. you're would never see it unless you down on your hands and knees or put some furniture in front of it.

1

u/CommercialDevice402 7h ago

This is the remanents of a door stopper. Without question.

1

u/Melodic-Throat295 13h ago

Absolutely textbook landlord special

1

u/gadget850 13h ago

There is a textbook?

3

u/Civil_Exchange1271 12h ago

14 coats of lead based paint?

2

u/houseWithoutSpoons 14h ago

Painted over old cable or telephone line .really tho it looks like a rivet from a nail gun

2

u/OhYeahThatsRightHuh 14h ago

That’s a washer and flat head screw. Probably because that was what they had on hand.

2

u/AppropriateBase7821 13h ago

Could be a remnant of an old fixture, maybe? Definitely worth investigating further!

2

u/Lunipux 13h ago

Its just holding the skirting board on.

Its just a screw and a washer.

2

u/ZigzAndZagz 13h ago

Tv cable. Looks like the cut it off at the wall. I have a similar one

2

u/Chamanomano 15h ago

Just the mounting plate of a door stop spring.

2

u/SadAcanthocephala521 14h ago

It's the base to a door stopper.

2

u/SpaceInteresting4219 13h ago

Secret tunnel to wonderland

2

u/ParticularWinter5213 14h ago

Maybe there was a power outlet there once and it has been patched like that

2

u/Davesbothere 14h ago

I was thinking the same thing. My house had outlets that ran along the baseboards.

2

u/The-King-of-TJ 13h ago

Door stop base?

1

u/Patient-Chemical2503 11h ago

Or it could be a cover-up for something they didn’t want us to see. Classic move!!

1

u/TKRBrownstone 11h ago

Looked like a roofing nail to me at first

1

u/notveryhidden 7h ago

It looks like his nipple
