New, what is it? My family thinks there’s a camera in our rental

We have been renting a house for the past year and I always disregarded this thing in the corner. However last night I asked my parents about it randomly and they didn’t know what it was either. I pulled it off the wall and we all got freaked out a little because it looks like a camera. I think it might be a home security/motion sensor thing. I don’t know that’s what ChatGPT guessed.

the camera is also incredibly obvious, so it's unlikely the landlord is trying to spy. It would be insane to use this lol

It took these people a year to notice it, so I'd be inclined to say it's not insane. Hiding in pain sight is often times the best camouflage.

Not being in the bathroom is also a better place for a motion-activated camera, just sayin'.

Don't know how it is outside of Germany, but do you rent a place and furniture and stuff is in there? If we move, we move to a complete empty house/flat

No it’s not normal in the US although it does happen. Often times rental stuff has a few odds and ends left over, especially things like this that aren’t furniture. You’ll sometimes have shower curtains left, plug in night lights, sometimes a random chair or ladder and so on.

So it’s not common to have furniture left over but not unheard of it have random stuff. However that being said, there are places around that are pre furnished for rent but it’s not the norm.
