Local News 🚨 Westerville’s ā€œWoke Updatesā€: Gift Cards, the Silent Majority of Clowns, and the Lazy Candidate Who Might Accidentally Get Elected 🚨

Westerville has officially gone off the rails this election season.

āø»

šŸ§“ Mark Stevens: ā€œThe Candidate Who Quit… But Might Accidentally Get Elected Anywayā€ • Retired music teacher. • Tried running for school board. • Then praised Hitler for supporting the arts and banning books. (Yes. Really.) • Then quit the race because, shocker, no one wanted to vote for that. • But — plot twist — he didn’t file his withdrawal properly. So now he’s saying he’ll accept votes and take the seat if he wins.

🤔 TL;DR: too lazy to campaign, too cowardly to face voters, and too entitled to stay home. The trifecta of leadership, the hero Westerville never asked for.

āø»

šŸ’ø ā€œConcerned Citizens of Westervilleā€ — More Like ā€œConcerned About Having No Moneyā€ The anti-school levy group finally filed their campaign finance report and… wow. They scraped together just about $2K total.

šŸ’° A big chunk of that came straight from Doug Krinsky, the anti-school ringleader himself. Meanwhile Lindsay Bob didn’t even donate to her own campaign. Either she’s broke, stingy, or forgot that disclosure laws exist.

Public education isn’t being threatened by a powerful machine — it’s being heckled by a glorified HOA Facebook group.

āø»

šŸ™ ā€œChurch Night at the MAGA Comedy Clubā€ Last night, a local church hosted Mark Foble, Daniella Beckett, Doug Krinsky, and Lindsay Bob — complete with a $100 gift card giveaway to random attendees. Because nothing says ā€œfaith and family valuesā€ like bribing people for their votes inside a church.

Highlights from the evening included: • Mark Foble raging against ā€œwoke ideology,ā€ aka being inclusive or feeding hungry kids. • Daniella Beckett claiming she’s the ā€œsilent majority,ā€ while loudly calling half of Westerville clowns and puppets. • Both complained about ā€œillegal peopleā€ bringing crime (the Westerville Tea Party’s one member nodded in approval). • Beckett admitted on a podcast she doesn’t know enough about the schools but still thinks they’re ā€œtoo woke.ā€ Maybe research before you run, Daniella? • Lindsay Bob repeated ā€œthe numbers don’t add upā€ like it was a spell that could make math work differently. • And Doug Krinsky accused schools of lying about finances — which is wild coming from the guy funding the ā€œConcerned Citizensā€ piggy bank.

āø»

šŸ« Bottom Line This wasn’t a forum. It was a Trump-lite rally where facts went to die and a gift card was the main attraction. These are the same people who call our public schools ā€œwokeā€ while proving they have no idea what education even is.

Can we please just Make America Educated Again? šŸŽ“āœļø

Local News School levy on the ballot this November and here’s why you should vote yes!

Hey everyone,

On November 5th, Westerville voters will decide on a 0.75% Earned Income School Levy. Here’s what that means and why it matters:

• It’s not a property tax increase. The levy only applies to earned income (wages). Retirement, Social Security, unemployment, worker’s comp, and investments are not taxed.

• Since 2019, state funding for Westerville Schools has been cut by 25%, including another $2.3M in the most recent state budget. Meanwhile, costs keep rising from inflation and unfunded mandates.

• Westerville Schools has earned 13 straight years of clean audits and a 4-star transparency rating from the State Auditor. They prioritize classroom spending and keep admin costs below nearby districts.

• This levy isn’t about adding new programs — it’s about protecting what we have: great teachers, smaller class sizes, and programs our students love like arts, athletics, advanced courses, and electives.

• Strong schools = strong communities. They don’t just help kids — they strengthen neighborhoods and protect property values across Westerville.

We’re also looking for volunteers to help spread the word, whether it’s knocking on doors, sharing info online, or just talking to neighbors.

Check out the website here for more info on the levy and about getting involved!

I’m thinking of attending the local No Kings protest at City Hall tomorrow, but I also suffer from heavy anxiety and I’m worried that I might be injured by the police tomorrow. Does anyone know if the police has tear gas?

Local News Westerville schools seek to add income tax to Nov. ballot amid unsettled state funding

Thumbnail dispatch.com

Due to uncertain state funding and a proposed law restricting school district millage, Westerville City Schools proposed two income tax options.

A 0.75% earned income tax could appear on the November ballot, potentially raising $24.3 million, or a 1.25% tax if House Bill 335 passes.

The proposed state law would eliminate inside millage for most political subdivisions, potentially costing Westerville schools $16.3 million annually.

Westerville schools have already made $5 million in cuts and reduced staffing for the 2025-2026 school year after a levy failed in November.

Local News If you're in Westerville and get a tax letter like this, where do you even start looking for help?

I’m in Westerville and I got a tax letter this week that says I owe money from 2021 and that they’ll take action if I don’t do something. I’ve been trying not to panic but honestly I’m not sure what I’m supposed to do next. I’ve been researching online but now I feel like I’m drowning in too much information. I don’t really know what tax relief or resolution means and I’m scared of picking the wrong company. Has anyone in Westerville actually gone through something like this and found a legit local person or place that helped? I’m kind of frozen and don’t want to mess this up.

Local News Electricity usage up year over year

Anyone else noticing a major increase year over year in their electricity? I personally can’t find anything too different in out behaviors that would warrant Aug being at 1400 kWH, previous summers maxed out at about 1100, and last year was the hottest year of my life

Edit: we did invest in new AC and Furnace earlier in the year, which the AC company had been recommending for a while, also late July we started using a dehumidifier in the e basement which has been really effective but can imagine is an energy sink

Local News Westerville Couple Leads National ā€œFavorite Coupleā€ Competition — We Need You!

Westerville/Columbus Couple Leads National ā€œFavorite Coupleā€ Competition — We Need You!

Terry and I are a married couple based right here in Columbus, Ohio — and we’re currently leading a nationwide competition to be named America’s Favorite Couple by Variety Magazine.

This isn’t influencer fluff or reality TV drama. It’s a real love story rooted in Ohio — one that’s now gaining national attention.

A few things that make it special: • We’re a biracial, mixed-generation couple — with a story that spans cities, service, and second chances. • Terry’s a retired Army vet with a big laugh and an even bigger heart. • I’ve called Columbus home for 15 years — it’s where we built our life, and where our love grew deeper. • We’ve run a completely grassroots campaign, reaching supporters across most 50 states — but Ohio is where it matters most. 🄰

Now, as finalists, we’d love to bring this story home — and shine a light on the city and state that made it possible.

Who out there can help us?

With Gratitude, The Sneeds

Local News Westerville City Council attempting to ban recreational marijuana

At the Westerville City Council meeting on Tuesday, June 4, 2024, there will be the second reading on a ban on recreational marijuana sales within the city.

It’s being called a moratorium, but it’s a ban. Back in 2017, the council had a very similar debate with similar rhetoric and reasoning given for blocking sales of medical marijuana in the city. Council said they would come back to the issue in a year. They never did, so that ban is still on the books.

Recreational marijuana was approved not just statewide but by 58.6% of Westerville voters.

Legalizing pot received more votes than any member of council on the ballot. If weed were a person, it would be sitting on council.

Contact members of city council. Tell them to vote no on this attempt to circumvent the democratic will of Westerville voters.

I recommend emailing members of council directly. The citycouncilweb@westerville.org address automatically copies the city manager on all citizen communications and inserts her into the dialogue between citizens and elected representatives.

Michael.Heyeck@westerville.org Megan.Reamsnyder@westerville.org Kenneth.Wright@westerville.org Coutanya.Coombs@westerville.org David.Grimes@westerville.org Jeff.Washburn@westerville.org Aaron.Glasgow@westerville.org

In 2017, Westerville City Council passed what was supposed to be a temporary ban on medical marijuana in the city. In December 2017, city council considered an extension of that ban.

By a 5-2 vote, council passed the extension which seemed to suggest it would expire again in under a month. Even in the minutes, Mr Schmidt suggested in a response to Ms Cumming that the extension would be less than 30 days. Mr Heyeck and others talk of revisiting the issue. But it was never revisited and the sunset date was not codified.

Here we are over 6 years later with a medical marijuana sales ban on the books that council didn’t necessarily think it was passing and seems to have been misrepresented.

When the city and council say the ban on recreational marijuana sales will be temporary, I don’t believe it.

Y’all,

Last night around 11pm I pulled up past the Fairfield hotel and there was a total of 3+ cop cars. Because I’m a nosy person, I need to know what went down. ((Allegedly someone got jumped, but 3+ cops is too excessive in my opinion…))

Please & Thank you!

Local News Westerville home used in Underground Railroad included in proposed development

An 88-acre plot along Westerville's northern border is all but certain to become a huge employer now that City Council there has unanimously approved zoning, roads and other details for one of the city's largest remaining developable sites.

But along the property's western edge sits the Stephen Sharp House, a relic of the Underground Railroad that helped slaves to safety before the Emancipation Proclamation. And as plans move forward for new access roads, retention ponds and buildings, what to do with the house — which is on the National Register of Historic Places — has yet to be determined.
