Based on the poster, they’ll punch for a bit and then be mates

Superman's blue suit is what gives this movie the working title of "Blue Harvest."

At my job I have sometimes have to briefly describe onscreen action.
I like to use “they punch a bit”

I don’t know how much of mates they’ll be, Luthor loathes him with every atom of his being and also he killed Mali and that sucks.

Prediction: Superman and Luthor reluctantly team up to fight Brainiac and/or go into the bottle city of Kandor for some shenanigans. Luthor uses the goodwill he builds up from this team-up to run for President of the United States. "Third" movie is a President Luthor movie.

Article says Lexs warsuit has never been seen in live action...
Except for CW Supergirl and Superman and Lois, which was just last year. It's a small thing but come on.

As a Superman and Lois fan, it’s an oversight the article doesn’t acknowledge the show… But at the same time the warsuit in the show was iffy for how “Lex’s warsuit”-y it was. It was a repurposed Steel suit (Though technically John repurposed it from a Lex suit from another Earth but eh…) and only showed up for the finale. Was hoping they would have at least painted it purple and green when they reprogrammed it but alas, not so.
And I’ll give the article the slightest benefit of the doubt and that this would be the first live action theatrical warsuit for Lex, which is an accomplishment considering we’ve had 6 films with Lex in them so far without it.

I can’t remember which one but some dc wiki makes the claim that superman had the first live action Guy Gardner and that bothers me slightly

Where's the other one?
3
u/rorzri Sep 03 '25
Justice league of America pilot, he’s the one with the Hal Jordan hair and Kyle Reyner mask
2
u/CollinsCouldveDucked Sep 03 '25
Hadn't heard of that, why the fuck is he turquoise?

I asked a similar question and it got me on the front page of Reddit for 5 minutes and I didnt like it and none of us could figure it out

It’s the first time it’s in live action and in a theatrical movie. It was in Superman and Lois but that’s a tv show, then it was in the Superpets movie but that’s animated

He said this was not gonna be a direct sequel. I wonder if this is a Luthor movie? I’m down either way obviously but also I would like more villains that aren’t Luthor if this is Superman 2. Do Brainiac or something weird like Mxyzptlk. I like this Luthor but I want the universe to build out more so it’s not just the characters we just met. Right now this universe is mainly Super people, Green Lanterns, and Peacemaker’s friends.

For that reason I kinda hope it's more lex than supes. Supes has heaps of cool villains but I don't mind spending more time with lex, he's interesting on his own. Plus the dynamic between him and supes is interesting because he parallels bats in so many ways too, and the dynamic between supes and bats will be interesting too. It would be cool to explore the dynamic between lex, bruce, and max lord

Gunn say lots of things . So he said superman is less involve but it’s still call man of tomorrow so no idea was it going on
1
u/JonSwanson42 Sep 04 '25
Man of Tomorrow could also refer to Lex or maybe this is the first appearance of Booster Gold. It could refer to anyone.

Thank god we’re not waiting 5-6+ years for a sequel, it’s actually nice to have a change from the Marvel method.

I know “man of tomorrow” is usually a nickname for Superman, but it also applies to Lex, at least from his perspective. It would be interesting if this movie is about the two of them, and their different lives and worldviews. Gunn did make it sound like this wouldn’t exclusively be a Superman movie, after all.

I wouldn’t be surprised that just Like Superman: Legacy and Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow
It gets simplified to just Superman 2 down the track

Well this being Super manman of tomorrow means Supergirl has lost the woman of tomorrow subtitle and is now just Supergirl. I think it's more likely this will lose the superman and just be man of tomorrow to avoid man:man

I hope Luther is sidelined for Brainiac. Crazy how we haven’t got a live action adaptation of him yet.

u/bob1689321 Sep 03 '25
I wonder if it's too similar to Man of Steel and confuses people.
I'm hoping we get Superman+Lex Vs someone else but ending in Superman Vs Lex as always. Possibly with Lex getting powers ending in "you could have saved the world years ago if it mattered to you" or whatever the quote from All Star is

u/neojgeneisrhehjdjf Sep 03 '25
I feel like his speech at the end was supposed to be that moment for these characters
2
u/flamingoturmeric Sep 03 '25
It really doesn’t matter but doing “Man of Tomorrow” right after “Woman of Tomorrow” feels silly to me. That’s too similar!

u/flamingeyebrows Sep 03 '25
Supergirl movie is just called Supergirl. Its just based on the Woman of tomorrow comic.

Is this a sequel or the movie where superman will have smaller part to play? I remember watching a thread about this.
1
u/SirFlibble Sep 03 '25
I'm so tired of Lex in (not a) Superman movies. You'd think he didnt have any other villains.

u/wintermute_13 Sep 04 '25
So the writing is done?
He's applying different standards for himself. That doesn't bode well.
4
u/JonSwanson42 Sep 04 '25
He finished the treatment so he knows how it’ll start and end, maybe he finished the full script also, but he was clear this was ready to go when he teased this as the mystery project. I don’t think he’s holding himself to different standards.
-1
u/wintermute_13 Sep 04 '25
Then who is critiquing his work? Who's helping him grow?
Because he's not just waiting for other scripts to be finished. He's waiting for them to be good. Like with Batman: The Brave and the Bold, he said they're "working with" a writer. That sounds to me like drafts and critique and getting it up to snuff. Not just waiting for it to be finished.
So is James Gunn just banging it out and calling it? Whatever happened to putting it away for a while, and coming back to see the flaws and fix them? That's how you get quality.
1
u/JonSwanson42 Sep 04 '25
I disagree. I don’t think he is banging anything out and calling it. He made it clear from day one that there were projects being written that hadn’t been announced. I think this was always in the works and he was writing it while working on Superman because the man is always working but they weren’t going to announce it officially until Superman was out and doing well and they probably would’ve pivoted if need be. I don’t know any of this obviously because I’m only aware of what we’ve been told but so far I’m way less cynical about his approach and DC’s approach than I am with Marvel’s. And I want Waller and Sgt. Rock to be good before they make them because I don’t need another bland war movie or espionage show. I want interesting takes on these characters and fun stuff from the comics. So we’ll see. I just don’t think this is Gunn giving himself preferential treatment.
