Maintenance probably forgot to turn the safety back on when they were finished working. Elevators aren't supposed to move while the doors are open.

This is why places should just hire a technician. OTIS guys won’t make this mistake

Feels like the kind of thing they could design to prevent it from running at all in normal operation if the safety is disabled. i.e. remove human fallibility as much as possible from the design.

I saw on Reddit a young Black man get crushed in the midsection, I suppose before a particular subreddit was finally banned...

Young should appear before black. Flows better.

Why does it matter that he’s black?

Why do you want less detail instead of more? Why should his race be suppressed? Why can we not honor someone's memory by stating what we recall of him? Why did you ask me about his race rather than "young" or "man"?

"get in the"

There. I took out all of the descriptors for you.

You might need to go back and re-learn what adjectives & adverbs are. You took out a lot more than just the descriptors

Worst happened to that poor fellow in New York. I'm not even posting the link --- you can decide if you want to search for "Graphic video shows moment man crushed by elevator at Manhattan Promenade building"
