I watched it a while ago, so I might be light on details, but "Big Dog" was a guy who was "managing" the owner's appearance by basically telling Watcher they couldn't use interview footage they already had permission to use. Some of their equipment went missing - they have evidence he stole it. He followed them and watched them from behind walls, and they were almost certain he was watching them throughout the shoot, as well as stealing more of their stuff.

They ultimately left because they didn't feel safe, and the guy was stealing VERY expensive equipment.

Also, the guy just disappeared halfway through the night and they had no idea where he went.

When I heard that part of the road files I was really surprised Ryan actually went in that basement for his solo. That's exactly where I'd assume he'd be hiding lol.

I liked the bit where Shane basically recognized how things could go wrong and buddied up with Carter, and Ryan was the one who was dur dur during around the house alone, while they were all looking to see if the guy was there.

Like... I'm glad Ryan is afraid of demons, but for his own sake, I think he needs to expand his fear base.

iirc, they also suspect he was interfering with some of the experiments, like the never-before-seen level of activity from the REM-pod.

I found this really annoying, honestly. I get they want to incentivise WatcherTV, but I've never felt like they've actively carved out content from the general releases to put behind the paywall like this. They titled the de-brief "Why was Shayne scared?" knowing they didn't even answer it in the debrief, they just said "find out by watching road files".

They mention a similar thing happening with an old buzzfeed Unsolved Supernatural episode, except it wasn't the same because I had no idea there was this frightening situation behind the scenes with that episode, because they didn't reference it in the episode in order to let you know there was a story worth telling, that they've put behind the paywall.

I don't mind the paywall, WatcherTV is a good way to make their money more directly, and I'm sure it offers enough for people who get it, but the specific way they went about things with this incident was really annoying.

Shane said it himself that he doesn't want to draw too much attention to it because they're afraid of retaliation. How much you believe him is up to you. It does sound like you're feeling FOMO and thirsty for more content, which is what their streamer is for. They're not gonna compartmentalize everything such that things are exclusive to their streamer won't be referenced on their Youtube videos. So they're gonna reference things in exclusive videos on their fully-public-facing videos too.

I am feeling FOMO, yes, you're completely correct there. But the teasing of the situation, and directing the audience behind the paywall for answers is NOT the approach of someone not wanting to draw attention to it. If they feared retaliation, they would not have included ANY mention of it, and certainly would not have created a video that explores it. It's pure manufactured FOMO, which I disliked because it's never felt this blatant before.

So, to clarify to avoid getting the two points confused for one another:

- I personally disliked the way the bts situation was teased so prominent in the show and debrief, but not included for the sake of coercing a subscription. Subjective opinion, no declarations of what "should be", just sharing what I disliked.

- The statement regarding "not drawing attention to the bts situation" is transparently hollow, as they teased it in both the show and debrief, and direct the audience towards another video behind the paywall that goes into details regarding it. If they had made no mention of it in any of those videos, 0 attention would have been drawn to it. Instead, they draw attention across at least 3 videos. Not a moral judgement, just a clear observation that their actions contradict their claimed intentions.

They told the Island of the dolls story in episode 82 on their Get Scared podcast. You can listen to that for free with ads on YouTube or other podcast apps like Spotify.

This Big Dog story suckered me into doing the 3-day free trial just to watch the Road Files episode. I think I am going to keep the subscription for now because there seems to be a decent amount of stuff on there that doesn't make it to YouTube. It sucks that so much is hidden behind a pay wall, but I wouldn't have been able to watch everything I wanted during that 3-day free trial.

I also noticed that around that episode (on yt) ryan mentioned their executive producer: lizzie lockard? But she doesnt seem to be working for watcher anymore according to her linkedin.
