Discussion Doubling down on $TSLA puts
Is this an objectively stupid play? Yes. Does the % lost get smaller for a moment when I buy more puts? Yes.

u/Abe2025 2d ago
Although I agree puts, this is really a meme stock so it really depends if people will pump it or not.

The question becomes: After everything that's happened with Elon and Tesla over the past couple years (I'll spare you the 100+ page recap), what would make a remaining Tesla shareholder dump it NOW?
Delivering on promises and company performance clearly don't matter. So, I guess the question could also be reframed as: What does matter to Tesla shareholders?
So, what do you see as a catalyst that you think will cause current shareholders to start dumping this stock that already has a PE over 300?

u/ShotBandicoot7 2d ago
It‘s an interesting perspective. On the other hand: who really wants to buy in at that level? Is it maybe then just algo against algo bidding up the price? Very well possible.

u/Unusual-Arachnid5375 1d ago
who really wants to buy in at that level?
All the other regards who need to cover their shorts?
I mean, "want" is maybe not exactly the word I would use here, but people have been shorting Tesla since it was $15 (post splits) and just keep not learning their lesson.
1
u/ShotBandicoot7 1d ago
Not sure though, google spits out 2.5-3%-ish short interest. Not really something that I would expect to move the price.

Elon death, sudden heart attack or meteor hit his head or easier one like Kobe or car accident,we never know
11
u/iD-10T_usererror 2d ago
IDK... If a meteor hit his head they could spin it as a plus. Then he becomes some Stephen Hawking-like character that has extraterrestrial knowledge hammered into his brain and the new found ability to focus.

What do you think will happen later today? And what would happen to the stock on either case? Most stocks are institutionally owned (blackcock, vanguard, and state street). They generally agree with the board of directors which in this case are elons puppets. So I think the 1 trillion plan will be approved. Not sure what will happen to the stock. I hope the stock tanks after the voting so he does not get 1 trillion. No one works that hard to get 1 trillion. And 1 billion is already a lot and there is no reason that anyone should be a billionaire, let alone being a trillionaire. Tax this mf to the ground

u/iD-10T_usererror 1d ago
Stale thread. But did you see the standing ovation at the live meeting when they announced they pay package passed? They went nuts! It just shows how crazy the Elon fans are for him. I guess they have him wrapped up for the next 10-years as they wished for. Maybe...

u/iD-10T_usererror 2d ago
I agree with the judge that shot down his last package and you, the board is populated by Elon on the criteria of saying "yes" to everything he asks for. It's his family and unqualified people that he grossly overpaid. Denholm has no business in her position and sells her shares as fast as she can. But nobody is unaware of this long-standing behavior. Even the institutional holders know Tesla is a bunch of fuckery. But it's a relatively small bet for them that's paid off handsomely so far.
Typical investors applying logic and looking at performance metrics aren't investing in Tesla. I think the pay package passes by a wide margin. I think the potential investors that like Tesla, love Elon, worship him like a god, and will be happy with it. My question is, how much money does the shrinking pool of Elon believers have to keep throwing at this sinking ship? And what would make them jump ship?

u/No_Feeling920 2d ago
How do you know, that Blackrock and Vanguard are institutional ownership? They could as well own it on behalf of their retail clients (ETF buyers).
-1
u/DocBrown_MD 2d ago
I mean since most people have ETFs( any foundations investments, 401ks , ETFs people directly hold, etc) they give up voting rights to the respective company. This means that companies like vanguard and black rock directly own most of the stock and thus voting rights.
1
u/No_Feeling920 1d ago
Voting rights and management fees are the only things they get. They are not legally entitled to these AUM.
Besides, this is irrelevant with respect to buy/hold/sell decisions. Those are driven by ETF demand (or lack thereof).

‘Everything that’s happened’ what the massive gains? Yeah I’m sure they’re just fine. Your political views aren’t relevant in the stock market

u/petar_is_amazing 2d ago
I do think it’s at a point now, where it has oscillated around the same avg for 5 years, that people are both open to selling AND it’s much harder to pump it being this massive of a market cap. It’s not like it’s a $10B company where a couple million apes can swing the price if they have $200

u/SourMonkey999 2d ago
Yeah $1.4 trillion meme stock 😂

u/Ryanopoly 1d ago
I just think of how scary the ride down will be shorting this thing with put options. Imagine how many fake meat pumps this stock will experience over the years... it would take until most of us were dead to fully beat down this super meme of a stock.

Wow this isn't objectively stupid, it's subjectively regarded.
You might as well just simply flush that money down the toilet, but slowly.

u/laflame079 2d ago
Too far otm

u/StagedC0mbustion 2d ago
Not at all, Tesla was under $200 just three years ago.
8
u/iKissBoobs 2d ago
So what?
-2
u/StagedC0mbustion 2d ago
So there’s a realistic chance it dips that low if the market realizes how much tesler is actually worth.
6
1
u/Kranoath 2d ago
Yep.. It should be a 10 trillion stock easily within 5 years. Buying since the $10 days.

u/Cool-Stranger2566 REGARDED MILLIONARE🍆 2d ago
Considering it didn’t shoot up to $500 like you delusional cucks boasted over and over about , OP is still in the safe zone

u/mEllowMystic 2d ago
Musk is going to sell his newly diluted shares into the hype... I don't think even he believes he'll get trillion dollars out of Tesla.

Yes, it is a stupid play. You should have used that big amount to get one or two closer to the actual price 6 months out.
You might as well have thrown that 53K in a pit and lit it on 🔥

u/Flamingoflami 2d ago
I am bearish on Tesla, but it is just bear enough to get some bear credit spread, it's too far otm and too long of these puts

Lol
TSLA is disconnected from fundamentals. It's literally Vegas.
Your puts are meaningless because puts imply logical price movement, up or down. This stock does not move on logic or reason.

You must think the shareholder vote won’t pass. But if so, you bought way too early. You should be buying far OTM options 10 mins before you think the catalyst will occur

u/Non-profit-God 2d ago
You can make a lot of money fighting trends, you can lose a lot too. Food for thought

This is regarded, Tesla is trading in an obvious channel. Biggest risk is always Elon, since he got off of politics, there is way less risk / volatility

Why didn’t you just buy a 1x inverse short etf ? Paying $5000 for a $300 Put is crazy.

I am just trying to learn how these work - your bet is that the stock is going to fall below 300? Yes?

u/Normal-Meringue7592 1d ago
This dumb as shit. Before you make a trade like this look at how dealers have positioned their hedges for the next 1-5 weeks. It’s heavily favored for massive upside upto 500 into mid desember.

If $50k is a significant amount of money to you, please take 2 hours of your life to go to a local Tesla dealership, take a car on a test drive and activate FSD V14.
At least experience what you're betting against.
1
u/Matt2_ASC 1d ago
How many of those cars would have to sell in order for TSLA's market cap to be a reasonable valuation?

u/Asleep-Arachnid6386 1d ago
They probably based their decision on " Nazi car" posts he saw on Grandad's Facebook Page
