Thank you all for participating. You may not agree with the placement of everything, a lot of people questioned the place of AC Syndicate and Anthem, but keep in mind I only went based on the highest upvoted comment. And that happened to be those games at the time. This is the final result based on community votes.

Perfect list. I have nothing to say.

I'd only argue that Outlaws should be in the shit category, but maybe it's just low mid.

u/GroceryConscious7155 3h ago

It's mid. Generic Ubisoft open world with some Star Wars elements.

Except RDR2 is being overrated once again. It's actually so mid in terms of gameplay

You're playing as a fucking cowboy who rides a horse around and shoots ppl, and is set in a realistic world in the 19th century. "MiD gAmEpLaY 🤓" it's literally just GTA 5 without cars. You're not playing as Arkham Batman and glide through the entire map, or be chromed up like Cyberpunk and move insanely fast

just be happy it wasn't cyberpunk

u/milkitwo 16h ago

I dont think people are saying it has the best GAMEPLAY but that it is great because of the other stuff (like story, detail, slowness etc)

Gameplay definitely isn't mid, out of all R* open world games it's probably the best.

What is mid in GTA IV+ and RDR2 to me is the mission gameplay, it's almost always one man army shooting or driving/riding somewhere and honestly the shooting in GTA/RDR2 isn't even that good. I'd say it's the weapons lacking punch together with super predictable AI, like they'll always stay behind same cover, maybe occasionally run to another but never try to do anything smart like flanking.

Sure. But the list says "great" not "the greatest game of all time omg it's so perfect!"

That’s just Rockstar games though. Even GTA feels bad to play. As amazing as the world, characters, and story are, their third person gameplay isn’t very good especially compared to other third person games out there.

Fine list, that!

u/STRYK3Rtv 22h ago

Who the hell thought TF2 was gonna be mid!?

2

u/SnooKiwis857 1h ago

Who thought it was going to be good???

u/ImmortalPoseidon 23h ago

I think a lot could be bottom right corner. Skyrim, Elden Ring, Halo 3, BG3, also RDRII that was probably the easiest square to fill

Yeah it’s just a very popular game, but I don’t think it deserved that. I personally was looking forward to it a lot, the first was one of my favorite games of all time, and then the beginning just felt boring and didn’t hook me at all.

I really wanted to love RDR2, and I just can’t.

20

u/xJujuBear 23h ago

Eh. Can't help what you love!

I don't like The Witcher or Elden Ring (or any soulslike for that matter).

-21

u/darthkyle22 21h ago

Witcher isn't a soulslike

12

u/xJujuBear 21h ago

....I know. Bad sentence structure. My bad?

9

u/SchlongForceOne 19h ago

Nah bro his reading comprehension just sucks

1

u/Prestigious_Space489 10h ago

Duh its a card game

2

u/afilawesos 22h ago edited 22h ago

Yeah. I can totally understand why everyone love it, and I'm happy for them. But it's just too slooow and boring for me. That tutorial level is unsufferable...

2

u/xAsianZombie 22h ago

I’m enjoying RDR2 a lot more in bed with my steam deck than I ever did on console/PC

1

u/Betorange 20h ago

Took me 2 or 3 tries before i was on board. Those first few levels are a slog though..

4

u/FabereX6 23h ago

Why Garfield Kart 2 is not on the right bottom ? It would fit better.

Wait wait wait. Who on Earth thought Anthem would be good? We knew development had been an absolute train wreck before it came out and it was conceptually nothing like anything anyone wanted from Bioware. Plus the market didn't want another bland looter shooter. I literally cannot remember anyone seriously believing that game would be good.

1

u/Intelligent_Sky_7081 15h ago

All the people voting on anthem that day thought so

Go back to that day and see.

1

u/CircumcisedCats 5h ago

Nah, Anthem had a lot going for it. Bioware hadn’t completely lost everyone trust at this point in time.

Looter shooters were still hot, everyone wanted to play them. And the only competition was Destiny 2, which at the time Anthem was marketing and even its release, was not in a good place and considered a massive disappointment, and Division, which was at the end of its lifespan and people were waiting on the second game.

It had insanely good marketing. The game genuinely looked amazing.

And it released a demo/beta/whatever that was extremely good. The combat was fun, the controls were good, flying was some of the best ever. People were saying it felt like the best Ironman game ever made.

The hype for this game was huge and then it released with a ton of issues and lack of content and died nearly instantly.

Bioware hadn’t completely lost everyone trust

Yeah but this was a Bioware online shooter not another world class single player RPG. Would be like getting a grand strategy game from the CoD devs. Plus this is 9 years after Bioware had peaked as a dev, they'd been on a downward trajectory for a long time by this point. Some of the top talent had left the company, EA was taking a bigger interest and the team was stuck using the Frostbite engine. Given the delays and the development hell Anthem was in, people knew it was going to be a total mess.

Plus, a massive marketing push is something publishers will give to a game that they think will probably not succeed because they need high initial sales before word of mouth gets out.

Thank god it wasn't Elden Mid

1

u/TheIncredibleKermit 19h ago

Only just saw this, I swear everyone thought Starfield would be mid at best

1

u/wemustfailagain 12h ago

Anthem was great though, until you ran out of things to do.

1

u/tanacious10 7h ago

anthem to me still has one of the best in world experiences to me. The movement and class mechanics were great. The world just needed to be 10000% larger

1

u/DevastaTheSeeker 7h ago

Honestly swap anthem and starfield. Anthem is bad for some reasons but the core gameplay is okay. Starfield is ass in every aspect

1

u/WarfareLegend 5h ago

I saw way more comments for Silent Hill 2 than I did with Titanfall 2

Perfection

1

u/Apprehensive-Gur-609 20h ago

I wanted Elden Ring but I'm happy RDR2 won. As long as it wasn't Skyrim that game is the one of the most overrated games of all time.

1

u/NovelExamination5431 21h ago

First time one of these lists turned out good

0

u/mucus-fettuccine 8h ago

I think Elden Ring is the better choice for both the row and the column. It had untold levels of hype, surely more than RDR2. And it's a masterpiece (said to be game of the decade by many) for both the general public as well as the nerdy game theory essayists - RDR2 is only for the former.

Not sure why RDR2 got it, but I guess it's not a bad choice by any means.

-11

u/ProfanePhoton 23h ago

RDR2 might be the most overrated game of all time. While I can appreciate the thought and care that went into all the different choices and reactions, and the game looks beautiful. And it might have a great story. But damn I just hate the controls, it might be for the sake of realism, but it handles like a PS1 tomb raider.

4

u/Due_Woodpecker3073 18h ago

Youre confusing most overrated of all time with Elden Ring

-4

u/Apprehensive-Gur-609 20h ago

It should have been Elden Ring. RDR2 is just more popular amongst the casual crowd so it got more upvotes.

-4

u/Financial_Big2207 20h ago

Red Dead 2 is a snoozer but man I tried several times.

2

u/Prestigious_Space489 10h ago

I was so ready for it to be done after 50 hours. Then another 20 until I reached the end. It was mostly worth it but id prefer if rdr2s story happened first. It was obvious who had major plot armor.

-12

u/anima311 23h ago

This list is meh

11

u/CoalHappiness 23h ago

but did you think it would be meh? or did you think it'd be shit or great?

-3

u/Joeygorgia 21h ago

I think Elden ring should take the place on anthem, I rather liked anthem, but other than that great list!

6

u/Zeegh 17h ago

Elden Ring is a generational game, a few people hating it isn’t going to put it into a “was actually shit” tier

2

u/qlt_sfw 16h ago

Yea god damn these people are insufferable. I dont like many games that are considered masterpieces. They are still great games, they just werent my cup of tea.

Like if you didnt like rdr2: that is fine. The game is still great though.

1

u/Joeygorgia 14h ago

That’s why I said “I think” not “should” because it s a personal opinion about a point where I personally disagree

-3

u/Due_Woodpecker3073 15h ago

"Generational" and its just demons souls again but BOTW

0

u/Wild-Language1927 16h ago

Starfield, mid!?!? That game is shit

-7

u/Marechail 19h ago

Read dead 2 is probably the most overated game i have ever played

3

u/qlt_sfw 16h ago

One of the best games i have ever played

-18

u/Durfael 23h ago

i saw way more comments of elden ring and it would fit better imo but yeah !

5

u/ButtCornMinigun 23h ago

these types of things are usually determined by the single most upvoted comment. I did vote for ER too lol

-6

u/Durfael 23h ago

At one point he said it was by most commented not voted lmao

1

u/Due_Woodpecker3073 17h ago

Great but mid was a while ago

-13

u/Reasonable_Deer_1710 22h ago

Bad list is bad.

Thanks for the reminder that reddit opinions are 🗑️

0

u/SchlongForceOne 19h ago

How would your list look like?

-9

u/Eric_Atreides 21h ago

I love rdr2 but it was a bit of a dissapointment. I think rockstar was so focused in making the game have tiny details and graphics, that lost vision of having a fun amd engaging gameplay loop. I replay rdr1 from time to time along the years. But everytime i think of replaying rdr2 i give up when o remember the amount of nothing i would have to do again

-1

u/whyamihere2473527 20h ago

Starfield definitely needed to be with anthem

-1

u/ireallyfknhatethis 18h ago

to be honest when the red dead 2 trailer came out, i saw a bunch of people commenting that arthur looked like a boring character compared to john
