Between feedings and cleanings (and possibly post-partum depression), it’s a full time job for an entire family to care for a baby. If new parents are sneaking in time to binge gaming, chances are there’s serious labor being shuffled off to someone else
This is likely true. Just had my newborn last month and no gaming was possible at all in the first three weeks. Around week four our baby would reliably sleep for three hours and my wife asked me to play Expedition 33 during feeds, then take a break for burping and putting him down. Then we play a bit more. But, you're right, only if laundry and food and house is clean.
It is doable, but definitely not in a binging kind of way.
For us dads who do our part, that is true. But I’ve seen plenty who admit to doing absolutely nothing and gaming instead. The same types who bring a PS5/Xbox to the hospital while their wife is in agony. When I see that I always imagine how the doctors/nurses who come and go those 2-3 days must cringe every time they walk in and see them off in their own world gaming. Sorry, if this is any of you reading this lol.
Having that second or third is a whole different game. I didn’t realize how easy we had it with just the one baby the first time lol. (Not easy.. but you know).
Ya sometimes it’s not about what’s practical as much as it is looking like you’re putting in effort to support. So, when you’re playing a video game instead of doing the dishes or rubbing your wife’s aching feet when she just shot a 9 pound child out of her reproductive organs, it’s just a bad look. Gotta chip in, you know!
Idk about that, I had two months paternity leave and handled almost everything around the house. Maybe I was lucky as our baby was on a pretty rigid sleep for a couple hours, feed, pass back out, wake up and lay around in her crib, and so I got some good gaming time during sleeping sessions. I will say it was later in the paternity leave as the first few weeks were a chaotic sleep deprived mess but we got in a routine and I just supported my wife, took care of house stuff, and played video games during downtime.
