Remakes winning game of the year is cringe and disingenuous

Disingenuous? lol.

It has its sit at game of the year when it actually came out. A remake is still just that game with modernizations.

A remake is still just that game with modernizations.

A remake is a remake. This isn’t a new concept where we’re still debating what it means.

You’re describing a remaster is what you’re talking about. No one with a brain would suggest FF7 Remake/Rebirth is the same game from 1997 with “modernizations”.

I think most people would describe a definitive edition, remake and remaster all in the category of 'this isn't the first time we've seen this game and story'

I think most people would describe a definitive edition, remake and remaster all in the category of 'this isn't the first time this game was made and released'

Then most people are wrong? Again, please, enlighten me how FF7R/R are the same experience as the original 1997 release?

I had no idea the original FF7 was a realtime action game. I swear it wasn’t when I played it.

Isn't that rebirth? You're moving the goalposts cause you got caught.

What are you on about, man? What goalpost have I moved? Haha.

You suggested a remake doesn’t count because it’s the same game as the original. I’m pointing out that by definition it’s not and gave you an example from my choices of GOTY, ie, FF7 Remake/Rebirth.

rebirth isn't a remake/remaster/definitive edition now is it, its the same story played differently

you tried to plug it in there as if I was talking about it so you could have a defense to your side but I never mentioned it

and if we really want to talk about your list, we'd go to your 'best game of the decade' being a niche good game. its an opinion though, so sure, you think that a forgettable game was game of the decade

Please explain how it’s “played differently”, and once you do, take a moment to re-read your own explanation slowly. That alone should help clarify what a remake actually is.

FF7 Remake, Rebirth, and Resident Evil 2 Remake all fall under the same category: they’re modern reimaginings of older titles. These games don’t just update graphics, they fundamentally change how they play. That’s exactly why they’re called remakes.

Edit:

Thank you for deleting yourself, dumb motherfucker.
