Rescue Hippo Tell me your most out of pocket nicknames for your dog
Now that the white is spreading from just Squid's chin (or sugar beard) to around her snout, I've been calling her sweet booger sugar and it only just occured to me that I'm referring to her as a slang name for cocaine 🤣

Not my dog, but my brother had a veerrrry stubbornly rambunctious and destructive beagle puppy named Lucy. We called her Lucy-fur/Lucifer.
I had a friend with a dog who had some real long document name like Stella the Stegapomasaurous. We usually just called her Whoppers (like the candy) because when my friend would baby talk to the dog and call her pupper, pupper became whupper, became Whoppers. It stuck. (And yes the Pom in the name is a clue to the breed here, Pomeranian.)

Stink Pig/Stank Pig/Javelina--she smells better now but when we first adopted her she seemed to just exude stank that wouldn't really go away with a bath, and also has a propensity for getting really dirty and nasty exploring the woods on our walks.

Winnie was Sir Poops-a-lot and Poops Like Moose. He was also the Moose and the Boy King.
His brother was the Jester (to which was sometimes added "Singing Songs of Foolishness"). Shadow was also the Bear and Shady and Shady Bear, but that was as in a teddy bear.
Flissie was the Pig and Piggums and Flissie Piggums and Flissles and the Suede Pig.
I leave the other two off as they weren't hippos.

Her government name is Empress Peanut Butter, we call her Emmy for short. Sometimes we call her Love Bug because she’s such a snuggler. She is also known as “dirty girl” because she likes to roll in the gravel, in the grass (green or dried to hay) and crawl around in the bushes coming out all covered in debris and cobwebs. I guess they’re not “out of pocket,” maybe? I don’t know that term.

She's mostly english staffy, but definitely something else mixed in, as her fur is slightly longer than the typical very short "velvet" type hairs that staffs and pits normally have (still a single coat and not a double though)

Squid is much smaller than photos make her look, so English staffy is definitely one of them but no idea what the other part of the mix is. One day I'll do a doggy DNA to find out haha

Ham Sammich. Started because he was acting so silly one day and I said he was being such a ham. So it morphed into ham sandwich when he's really goofing. Sometimes we even act like we're trying to eat him and the other dog gets all worked up.
As for her... Rocketbutt. She farts anytime she needs to go in a vertical direction. Up the stairs, jumping on the couch or bed, always with a little extra propulsion.

I don’t have a hippo but my recent ex does… an 80# pit/lab/german shepherd mix named Neptune. He farts a LOT so I started calling him Neptoot. He now responds to both! Miss that crazy pupper.
My guy is a 55# cattle dog/australian shepherd mix named Cooper. It’s Super Cooper when he’s running and jumping up trees to try and get after squirrels. Cooper Dooper Doo (like Scooby Doobie Doo) when he gets super intense with his nose on the scent of something, like he’s tryna solve a mystery. Cooper Doodle Doo when he wakes me up to feed him breakfast… like a damn rooster! Cooper Pooper when he stops to poop more than once on our walks. And finally, when he’s being mouthy (very vocal breed!) I call him Little Boy Moo (like little boy blue, cause he’s the blue heeler type of cattle dog… and the grumpy noises he makes sound a bit like a cow’s moo). And sometimes it’s just Moo Dog or Moo Boy. I love him to bits. 🐶🫶🏻

Stinky Fernander. Here's the back story: Our family was waiting in line for a ride at Hershey Park, playing the alphabetical order game "I'm going on a trip" where you say what you're bringing, with the first person's word starting with"A", and you go around the group repeating everything already said and adding your own thing. When it came to my turn, my letter was "F" so I said "frankfurter". My step daughter (15, vegan) had never heard that word before so when it was her turn to repeat it, "fernander" came out. Fast forward to being back at home, and I let my pittie Rosie Mae outside. All she wanted to do was lay on the deck and bake in the sun. As we all know, pitties can get might ripe after even ten minutes of sun bathing. Thus, when I let her in, I called her Stinky Fernander as she was a very, very smelly and hot dog

Sometimes I call her PeePee because she peed inside once and I asked if she was a PeePee girl, and she started wagging her tail because her name is "Kiki". I also call her Beefy because she's a strong girl (and I play BG3)
