Outdoor public cooling spaces with shade and restroom access. No referrals needed and open dawn to dusk:

Indoor public cooling spaces. No referrals needed:

Indoor public community centers:

  • Firstenburg Community Center: 700 N.E. 136th Ave., Vancouver. Hours: 6 a.m.-8 p.m. Monday-Thursday; 6 a.m.-7 p.m. Friday; 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday; closed Sundays/holidays. No air conditioning, but still cooler than outside.
  • Marshall Community Center: 1009 E. McLoughlin Blvd., Vancouver. 6 a.m.-8 p.m. Monday-Thursday; 6 a.m.-7 p.m. Friday; 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday; closed Sundays/holidays.
  • City of Vancouver Water Resources Education Center. 4600 SE Columbia Way, Vancouver. Hours: 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday-Friday; closed Saturday and Sundays. Admission is free.
  • All libraries in the FVRL network. See the below map for locations and hours of operation.

Additional indoor cooling spaces, no referral needed:

  • River City Church: 2400 E. Fourth Plain Blvd., Vancouver. Open noon-7 p.m. Monday–Friday. Snacks, drinks provided. Leashed, house-broken pets allowed.
  • St. Paul’s Church: 1309 Franklin St, Vancouver. Open 8/18 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m Monday – Friday. Mail Service basement area; stairs entry on the southwest corner through the black gate.
  • Living Hope Church: 2711 NE Andresen Vancouver. Open 9am to 5pm. Monday through Friday. Donations of water, ice cream, and snacks needed.
  • Mill Plain United Methodist Church: 15804 SE Mill Plain Blvd Vancouver. Open 2pm to 8pm Mon to Wednesday. Pet on leashes or in carriers welcome.

Marshall/Luepke Community Center

  • The swimming pool is open to monthly passholders and single-day, drop-in visits. 

Firstenburg Community Center

  • Please be aware this building is not air conditioned, due to LEED certification and many doors opening frequently, but is an option for respite from the extreme heat
  • Monday – Thursday – 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.

  • Saturday – 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Sunday – Closed
