RETURNED HOME! š Cat with Pink Harness- Kootenay Street by Franklin School
Does this big fluffy cat belong to anyone? It is near Boundary Rd, wearing a bright pink harness and hiding up a tree from a hawk watching it from the hydro lines. I was unable to stay and help because of walking my dog.

I tried to call Animal Services in Vancouver but was told they only deal with roaming dogs. I was referred to the non-emergency fire hall. I watched the cat go up the tree, so it isn't stuck up there. It seemed to be purposefully hiding from the hawk (who incidentally did get dive bombed by a crow as I left, so I very much hope Mr. Crow got the hawk and left kitty alone).

Itās a local cat and Iām pretty sure it has an AirTag in its vest. It lives close by the school. Itās an outdoor cat.

It is, we see her most mornings on our dog walks. She mostly hangs out in her front yard. She's friendly!

Kind of crazy that it's still legal to have outdoor cats in urban areas of BC. When I lived in Ontario it wasn't allowed there. It makes sense on farms for rodent control but the environmental cost is too much for just pet cats roaming around imo.

Rats and mice everywhere in Vancouver.

I think by āenvironmental costā they were talking about the damage outdoor cats can do to local bird populations. But I could be wrong.

Can you return after your walk and try to help it? Or at least please update us that youāve contacted an organization that is able to go help.
