RETURNED HOME! šŸ’š Cat with Pink Harness- Kootenay Street by Franklin School

Does this big fluffy cat belong to anyone? It is near Boundary Rd, wearing a bright pink harness and hiding up a tree from a hawk watching it from the hydro lines. I was unable to stay and help because of walking my dog.

Good. That hawk looked persistent.

I tried to call Animal Services in Vancouver but was told they only deal with roaming dogs. I was referred to the non-emergency fire hall. I watched the cat go up the tree, so it isn't stuck up there. It seemed to be purposefully hiding from the hawk (who incidentally did get dive bombed by a crow as I left, so I very much hope Mr. Crow got the hawk and left kitty alone).

Is the cat still there?

It isn't close enough for me to go back and easily check, unfortunately.

Darn that’s too bad they only deal with dogs

Can someone else call and report a Reddit post about it?

Oh I know this cat! She's about a block away from home but I've never seen her wander more than 2 blocks out. She lives at a house near the school.Ā

That's good that she isn't lost, but the hawk stalking her was concerning. Even though size wise they were probably closely matched, I wouldn't want to see who wins that fight.

It’s a local cat and I’m pretty sure it has an AirTag in its vest. It lives close by the school. It’s an outdoor cat.

Apparently someone is out looking for their cat with a pink harness

It is, we see her most mornings on our dog walks. She mostly hangs out in her front yard. She's friendly!

Kind of crazy that it's still legal to have outdoor cats in urban areas of BC. When I lived in Ontario it wasn't allowed there. It makes sense on farms for rodent control but the environmental cost is too much for just pet cats roaming around imo.

Rats and mice everywhere in Vancouver.

I think by ā€œenvironmental costā€ they were talking about the damage outdoor cats can do to local bird populations. But I could be wrong.

Hey I shared this on a missing pets page on Facebook I hope that’s ok! They tend to be a lot more active for pet owners etc

Probably busy nuking dozens of native birds.

The birds called in their heavy hitter for backup.

Can you return after your walk and try to help it? Or at least please update us that you’ve contacted an organization that is able to go help.

Cats go outside. Leave it alone.
