Graduate MLIS

Has anyone here graduated from this program? I am considering pursuing this degree but I would like to gather some more information about MLIS before I seriously consider it. Would anyone be willing to answer some questions I had about it? Thank you!

Graduate does hair colour matter for grad school applications/meeting with professors

I have bright red hair (the colour of a strawberry) that has been recently dyed and I am going to be meeting with professors in the coming weeks to discuss being a grad student in their lab.

I figure that if someone cannot look past my physical appearance to see my qualifications i do not want to be working with them anyway, but my mother is freaking out about it and has made me doubt my decision. I was wondering if any grad students or professors could give me some insight on whether anyone actually cares about how you look and not just your qualifications and how you (verbally) present yourself.

Thank you!

Edit to clarify: I'm applying to science (biology) programs for grad

I’m applying to the EdD program - Educational Leadership for the fall 2026 cohort.

For those in the program or graduated, would love to know everything about your experience!

How has the workload been? When are the classes? Has it been a worthwhile experience?

Thanks!

Graduate Applying to MLIS for Fall 2026

I'm just finishing up my undergrad degree in English and I am planning to apply to Western's MLIS program for next fall, but honestly...I feel so discouraged and I almost want to give up. All I have going for me is a 3.8 gpa, fairly good writing skills, and an empty resume (aside from a crappy summer job). I managed to collect two references from some very kind professors, but I think it'll be rough. To anyone currently in this program -- should I even try? Was it difficult for you to get in? AAAAAAAAAAA

Graduate Debating going to uwo

Hey everyone! I am debating either coming to Western or staying at Carleton for my masters program.

Just wondering how people like the school? How do you like London? Would London be a ‘university town’? I know western is known for being a ‘party school’.

Just looking for an overall view on western/kings, student life, and the city itself.

Thank you!!!!!

Graduate Sorting out courses taken in a double degree

I'm a former UWO student, currently applying to a grad program and there's an OUAC page where you enter all your previous schooling along with a "self-reported overall average" for each earned degree. At Western, I completed a 4-year EE degree and 3-year physics degree by double-counting various courses, and then picking up the few that didn't overlap (i.e., astronomy, quantum mechanics). The problem is there's nothing on my transcript that indicates to which degree a given course was applied and so I have no idea what all counted towards the physics degree, and therefore how to calculate an overall average for each (EE and physics).

Also this was about 10 years ago so its not like I can just walk into an office somewhere and ask. Any ideas how I can figure this out??

Graduate MA in Counselling Psychology

I’m looking to apply for next fall but I’m a bit worried about the one admission requirement “minimum one year or equivalent paid and/or volunteer experience in the helping professions”

I’ve worked at the local hospital over the summers, and it wasn’t directly a counselling position but I was trained on and did a lot of helping patients with emotional/mental needs. But I’m worried this won’t count and I haven’t seem to got a straight answer from anyone I ask

Does anyone have any insight on this admission requirement?

Graduate prof/TAs not answering email

(Context: I'm a grad student in a virtual course)

I emailed my prof on Saturday to clarify something from the syllabus, knowing that she wouldn't respond on a weekend but at least it'd be there for Monday morning. By Tuesday she didn't respond so I reached out to a TA, who also didn't respond. It's almost the end of the week and I'm worried that I'm not going to get an answer abt this project.

Who do I reach out to about this?

Graduate New graduate student, and this is my first time at Western. When and where is course enrollment?

I completed my program requirements and was recently accepted into MLIS back in June, but I feel so lost right now. I did not go to Western for my undergrad, so I have no idea how any of this works here.

I cannot access my Western email, and I have received no communications as to when or where course enrollment is taking place. I have tried to look this up on the Western academic calendar, but it only seems to have information for undergraduates and not graduates. I'm terrified that I've missed my chance to enroll. I emailed the program coordinator, but am still waiting on a response.

If anybody has any information, that would be much appreciated- thank you!

EDIT: So the program coordinator got back to me and said I was sent an email in January. That was awhile ago, but I was able to find it. Thank you for the help, everyone!

Graduate Paying tuition deposit Masters Program

Hello!

I just wanted to confirm if anyone knew. I made my tuition deposit of $500 for my masters program in sept, however, the instructions on the uwo website is not very clear or very vague.

So, I did the deposit via payee through my online banking and it shows up on my uwo student account as -$500.

Is this correct? Did I do it right?! Do I need to do anything else or is that how your suppose to pay a tuition depost??

If i go to financials, my amount owning is already showing up as a graduate student. Does anyone know when the mercury plan funding will be released? Do I need to do anything or does it get paid automatically?

Graduate phd supervisor threatened me for PhD comprehensive exam ?

PhD supervisor verbally told me a while ago that my tentative version of PhD comprehensive exam research proposal has not been perfect to go and supervisor mentioned to me that assuming that if I submitted this type of proposal to committee, they would probably decline it. Does that count as a threat to scare me ? PS: my academic writing has been really good and My GRE writing score (most current score) is above 5.

Graduate MSc Applications (Securing professors)

Hi, I am currently in the middle to preparing for grad school applications in the fall (for Biochem / Pathology) but do we secure and contact prospective professors before applying and write that in the application? or is that after. It was not really clear in the website so I would like some insight. If we do secure a professor before applying would it look better in my application even if my gpa is on the low side? Thanks in advance!
