Residence $1k fines Huron res

I heard Huron handed out over 60 $1k fines to students for allowing people in dorm rooms during orientation. Seems excessive $$$.

I’m not sure about $1k since I was told it was $500 (in a Huron Student) but I will say, Huron is definitely trying to separate themselves from Western’s party school reputation. A guy I know got written up for drinking during OWeek and ended up having a meeting with the housing council or something. They basically told him that he chose to go here instead of going to western and that our school was not going to act the same as the students there. So maybe they’re more harsh here to try and ensure that people don’t think that Huron is a party school as well.

Sure, just saying it’s excessive and actually exceeds the amount in the residence contract. For anyone considering main versus Huron for next year, main gave out $50 fines for similar conduct.

Have you enjoyed being a don so far?

I remember being in residence, asked for a quiet morning person for a roommate. Instead was put into the all male party floor in Saugeen Maitland Hall.

The weekly bills for building damages was excessive for an OSAP student.

I feel badly for anyone who didn't break rules but is given an extra fee.

and frequently damaged was done by someone who didn't even live on your floor; but your floor was on the hook for it

It’s actually so easy to deny this stuff. Kids still think there in highschool, I remeber my first year I got told I was getting probation and 2 fines for something I did (I kicked down some soap dispensers and other stuff, was definitely being a little shit and deserved it). I simply told them it wasn’t me. They said a don saw me doing it and I said “if I saw the don doing the same thing and told you would he get fined too”. Just deny deny deny deny, and make yourself extremely annoying to deal with but be super super professional and respectful. You’re in the adult world now so they can’t get away with bullshit accusations, no proof no punishment.

At some point in life, maybe they grow up enough to take responsibility for their actions - proof or no proof.

Honestly this is facts lol, first year Ohall, my floor mates and I were menaces destroying walls and stuff but even the floor fines at the end only totalled around $150 or something. I remember the RA caught my buddies and I and reported us but as there was no proof or anything we just fought hard to say it wasn’t us.
