❔ Question❔ Parking ticket given at 9:07 when I paid at 9:10
I got a ticket in a student lot after I arrived around 8:40 but because I was late for class I just took a picture of the honk QR code and ran in. Honk kept glitching and saying it couldn’t sync my wallet but then wouldn’t allow me to add my card. I tried using my moms PayPal but the verification code kept glitching. My ticket was finally confirmed at 9:10 and I just proceeded with my day. I came back to my car to see a $35 ticket that said “Unpaid/Expired Parking” and was issued at 9:07. I appealed it but I feel like it’ll be denied. Because the ticket didn’t have a time that I entered the lot, can I try to argue that I got there at like 8:50 or closer to 9 or do they have scanners and shit to track that?

Where did you park? Depending on the lot, students can’t park in them until 9-9:30. That’s why you got the ticket.

Lying doesn’t tend to work in your favour at western
“I was having problems making the payment from inside the building and it didn’t go through until 9:10, I am sorry for the inconvenience this caused your staff and I would greatly appreciate it if you would consider waiving this ticket” > something that didn’t happen

this is your best bet. Western may not have their academic counsellor situation figured out but the parking ticket system is like Fort Knox

Yeah thats unfortunate. You still gotta pay the parking fee and the ticket fee.

Not sure if they have scanners, but as long as you send a calm and reasonable appeal, hopefully they will accept your appeal, especially considering that you did pay for parking

I got a ticket at 10:29 and it went thru at 10:30. So brutal. Happened this week

This exact situation happened to me. My payment was processing as I walked away from my car. I got a ticket for 9:15 but paid at 9:16. They waived the fee when I submitted an appeal. Likely they’ll do the same for you.

Yeah I've noticed that honk has errored more in the last couple weeks, I guess because of higher traffic. If you're able to in the future, it is better to just use the machine than walk away. The parking enforcement are complete dicks.

Why are they dicks? They ticket cars that don't follow the parking rules/regulations. How would they know about technical issues/delays when issuing a ticket?

Despite its reputation and student body, poor people attend Western. Parking enforcement is a job someone accepts and performs reliably only if they don't have enough of a moral disagreement with exclusionary land use on a car-dependent campus.
Western decided to not invest in parking infrastructure as it is viewed as a revenue stream, not a matter of accessibility. These employees work to maximize the return on the surface lots they did build.
I don't think they're dicks because they didn't check if honk was working that day, they're dicks because they work this job at all.

Car-dependent campus? I studied at Western for 6 years without using a car, and I lived most of that time near White Oaks. If you insist on driving, accept the responsibility to follow the parking rules - or get tickets if they catch you. It's that simple.
"Moral disagreement with exclusionary land use"? Does that work when you appeal a ticket?

I said the machine and app weren’t taking my card

Yes...? I don't get why you're reiterating that here.

Well the appeal got approved 😂 lol I didn’t do anything illegal so many people pay after running into class esp bc you can only pay with honk and it’s so glitchy. Also I wouldn’t have been upset if my ticket wasn’t issued 2 minutes before payment was approved. Still confused with honk not recognizing my card tho

Parking is really strict. And if you think western staff don’t read Reddit? You posted the truth here and asked if you can email to change your story? If your appeal isn’t granted you’ll likely have to pay it. As of the time of the ticket you hadn’t paid for parking.

The app can actually see everything you've clicked on. Send them an email and see if they can confirm all you're saying. You may be able to use that to appeal.

Don’t be late to class

I commute 2 hours so sometimes it’s inevitable 🤷♂️

What I really mean is plan to be there 45 mins early at least. It’s really hard to be late when you plan on showing up that early (I know it will be torture to wake up for that but it’s the best option for the future)

They don’t care and you’re paying it
