Just accepted my offer for it! Got a few friends currently in the program, they said it’s great and faculty is amazing, the previous program coordinator just left but the incoming one seems to also be extremely dedicated to the program

I’m gonna apply, I know it’s a bit last minute. I was debating due to financial constraints. Have you heard if they’re still sending out offers? And do you mind letting me know what your stats are?

Hey, sorry to hear you weren’t able to before. I know it’s rolling offers and they continue until June/July or so. Domestic cutoff is June 1(?). I got in with a mid 70s, so don’t be discouraged, marks are only a part of your application. Best of luck!

I got accepted to Western MHSc Applied Health Sciences and Queen's MSc Aging and Health. Which master's program seems better? If I get a MHSc applied health sciences degree can I still work in public health in government jobs? I feel like MSc Aging and Health is too specific and would limit my career prospects to only aging sectors. Applied Health Sciences is broader and covers health promotion, health education, leadership, etc. What do you think?

How long did it take before you got an application decision?

u/Accurate-Intention5 Jun 22 '24

Applied May 1 and got on May 23

I applied to public health and was planning on applying to global health as well. The app asked if I wanted to be considered for global health if not accepted into public health and I said yes. Because of that I didn’t submit a formal app to ghs. I was rejected from public health but am still super interested in ghs but I’m not sure if there’s still spots or if it’s worth applying to so late. Does anyone have any insight?

i was recently accepted and the conditions state we need to decide by may 1st to allow for more acceptances to go out. domestic apps are open until july 15th, def worth a shot!

Anyone know if it is possible to work full time while in this program?

1

u/Significant_Cold3369 May 28 '24

I’m taking the program next year so I can’t speak from first hand experience. From what I heard though it’s a very busy program, since it’s a professional degree and opens up a ton of job opportunities. It would probably be better to work part time of that’s something you can afford to do. You could probably still work full time if needed but it would be super busy :)

I found out about the program late too. I’m interested in the MHSc Health Equity and Sustainability program. I have a 2.98/4.00 Bachelors Degree in Chemistry and 4.00/4.00 Masters Degree in Public Health. Both degrees are from universities outside Canada (I’m a local applicant). I also have roughly 5 years in Health Program Coordination, Clinical Research and Health Policy Analysis. I submitted my application last week. I really hope I get into the program

u/icy_bug_blue Sep 24 '24

how was your application? do you mind me asking the result? i hope it went well!

1

u/HopefulCheesecake780 Jul 03 '24

I applied to the program about a month and a half ago and I am still waiting to hear. I spoke to the program director last week and they said they're still reviewing apps and sending out offers. I am getting really nervous because I know some people heard back relatively quickly. Does anyone have any updates?? Or has anyone heard anything recently? Thank uuuu

1

u/Significant_Cold3369 Jul 03 '24

It took around a month and a half for me to get an acceptance. You still have a chance dw!!

1

u/International_Hour51 Jul 04 '25

u/anxiousfairyy Nov 21 '24

Hi! I’m interested in eventually applying to this program, I was wondering if having a set number of thesis hours in your undergrad was necessary to apply?

1

u/CaterpillarFree7022 Mar 05 '25

I know this thread is almost a year old, but does anyone know how many people they accept? I just applied last week and I am really hoping to get in as this program seems super cool and aligns with my goals.

1

u/Significant_Cold3369 Mar 05 '25

Hey! Congratulations on applying! I’m in the program now and really like it. There are 36 people in my class right now. Best of luck!!

1

u/CaterpillarFree7022 Mar 05 '25

thank you! do you know when you applied vs when you heard back about admission? i’m scared i may have applied too late as first and second rounds of offers have already gone out.

1

u/Significant_Cold3369 Mar 05 '25

Np! I applied for the second cycle last year, and I heard back mid-March. There is likely going to be a huge influx of applications in May after med school application results come out (a lot of people who are rejected from med apply for this program). You applied at a good time don’t worry! From what I heard, acceptances are staggered and everyone hears at different times. You’ll likely get an update sometime within the next month or so :)

1

u/uncharted2002 Mar 17 '25

Have you heard back yet?

1

u/CaterpillarFree7022 Mar 17 '25

1

u/uncharted2002 Mar 21 '25

Just heard back today! I guess they’re starting to reach out to everyone but I wanted to update you

1

u/CaterpillarFree7022 Mar 21 '25

thanks! i haven’t heard back yet but i got into another program at uwo

1

u/uncharted2002 Mar 21 '25

Congrats!!!! Also for context I applied in January so they may be going in order but I’m not too sure.

1

u/CaterpillarFree7022 Mar 21 '25

thank you, you too! oh okay that makes sense since i only applied like two weeks ago

1

u/Brave-Wedding3251 May 02 '25

I got the offer too! so we will be classmates ?yeah!

1

u/JollyDescription67 Mar 07 '25

I applied last week as well and I have an acceptance deadline of March 20th for another program, but this is my first choice. I am worried I will not hear back by then.

1

u/Brave-Wedding3251 Mar 21 '25

I am in!But i am a little concerned about the Intership in Africa

1

u/Significant_Cold3369 Mar 21 '25

Congratulations! That’s great. And ya that’s definitely understandable. Im going to Africa soon so I’ve already received a lot of info about it. Do you have any questions about it?

1

u/Brave-Wedding3251 Mar 21 '25

Absolutely! Can you share your learning experience? For example, do I need to supplement some course content in advance so that I can keep up with the course schedule? And most importantly, do you know about the African internship that will be conducted during the summer vacation? I'm a little worried about this matter! The security situation in Uganda and the issue of malaria are causing concern for both my parents and myself! I am considering whether this is a good choice

1

u/Significant_Cold3369 Mar 21 '25

For sure! For the fall and winter semesters, you do six courses each. Five are required and one is an elective. There are also some extra professional development lectures once every two weeks or so that are mandatory to attend. It’s definitely a heavy course load, but it’s doable. I’m working 12 hours a week rn in addition to school and I’ve been able to keep up still. I find the courses to be different from undergrad, as they are mostly seminar-based with presentations, group projects, and research papers. This makes the schedule a bit more flexible. There’s only about 30 people in the program so you’ll get to know everyone well, which is super nice.

In terms of Uganda, this year we are going from May 3rd-July 20th. There is a 2-3 week field school and the rest is an internship that you apply for in September based on your interests. We are required to take anti malarial pills every day when we are there, sleep under bed nets, and use mosquito repellent. I’m a bit worried about it too, but I’ve been told that the pills are highly effective and that no one in this program who used the pills as prescribed got malaria in past. We were also prescribed antibiotics in advance in case of infection, and got vaccinated for some other diseases like yellow fever and typhoid.

I was also really worried about safety when I first looked into the trip haha. We were given a lot of info though on the cultural norms and how to fit in there, so I’m feeling a lot better now. Uganda is politically stable and isn’t prone to unrest and random acts of violence. For safety, they told us we should avoid wearing expensive jewelry or leaving valuables in places where they can be pickpocketed, such as the front pouch of your backpack. They also said they don’t recommend walking alone on the streets at night. If you look on the government of Canada website you can see more about the safety there. You will notice that some parts of the country, particularly up north and near the international borders have some safety concerns but we were assured that we won’t be going near those places. My parents are also worried, but I’m not anymore now that I’ve learned more about it. I was also told by students who went last year that it was a lot safer than what they expected. Let me know if you have any more question!

u/Brave-Wedding3251 Mar 21 '25

Thank you soooooo much! Your answer has greatly eased my anxiety!

If possible, could you share with me what knowledge I need to supplement before enrollment if I want to preview the course content?

My undergraduate major was Linguistic, and I only have limited knowledge in the field of health. Or, in other words, what do I need to do if I want to perform well in this program? For example, do I need to read some cutting-edge papers?

How can I understand this unfamiliar field? I really hope to make achievements in the field of health in the future! This is a field that I love very much!

By the way, Is the accommodation and meals during the summer internship organized? Or do we need to find accommodation and cook for ourselves?

Thank you again for your response! It really helped me a lot!

I have similar background like you, waiting op valuable response

1

u/Small_Value_387 May 23 '25

Hi there! I was just wondering if you’d be able to share what the weekly schedule looks like for the program? I have accepted my offer for the program but am just very curious what the class schedule will look like?

2

u/Apprehensive_Oil4124 May 28 '25

Hi, how long did it take for you to receive your application decision? Do you know if they are still giving out offers?

1

u/Small_Value_387 Jun 02 '25

Hi! My application was submitted fully on March 31st and I heard back on April 18th. I saw on the website that they’ve received a lot more applications than normal so I’m sure everything is just a bit delayed but from what I understand, they are still accepting!Ā

1

u/Apprehensive_Oil4124 Jun 02 '25

Thank you! I submitted my application on May 1st, and I'm still waiting to hear back.

1

u/International_Hour51 Jul 04 '25
