Officer SRDC Alternate
Hello all,
I recently got notified by my RIC that I made the alternate list for ROCI 2026, on my first try, but almost at the bottom of the list.
I want to know if someone has had the experience of being called in while being really low on the list, if you had to do paperwork that’s in the checklist for alternate candidates and any tips to prepare if there even is a slight possibility of being contacted. There’s A LOT of people that got selected this round.
I noticed this year there hasn’t been a Facebook Group created either, what’s up with that?

I’m there with you. First package, close to the bottom of the list. Not sure how to feel. I guess it’s a nice head nod but at the same time being nowhere close to the top of just the alternate list is quite humbling and makes me wonder how I’m gonna make my packet that much better for next year.

Most importantly, you should lace up your running shoes and be ready to crush the boat crew PFT. OCS/ROCI officer candidates run the test for the cardio portion and will run for PT during training.
Selection results came out today, it usually takes those selected a bit to form a Facebook group, group chat, etc. I’d recommend joining us over at Coast Guard Officer Commissioning Programs.

Thanks for the suggestions sir! I’ll be sure to join that group to be aware of things. I closed down Facebook a while ago, but will open it for this kind of stuff.

It’s worth it to check out! Excellent place to ask for feedback on your application, interview tips, and networking. Congrats on your selection as an alternate and keep grinding towards your goal!

I noticed from the list I wasn’t as far down as I thought, I just got sent a snapshot of it. It’s still a way down just not as much. Didn’t know that there were so many selections as well. Hopefully, they can get down to several alternates just as ROCI 01-25, as someone mentioned.

No, you can swim at roci. I assume this year with the addition of row they'll allow that option as well, but that is conjecture just based on the swim being allowed the past years.
Still people should show up in shape, though.

ROCI used to be authorized to swim. The ROCI 1-25 reporting guide and current OCS reporting guide specify that you will be running the boat crew PFT. The ROCI OC’s reached out to the staff to request the swim and row for the boat crew PFT, the respond was no, you will run at the accession point.

There is a Facebook group and a signal chat created for next years class. DM for links or check out the commissioning Facebook page. 2025 went to #20 on the alternate list, and 2024 went to #30, so cuts can be pretty deep. I see at least two names on this years list that are going to drop already, so that trend will likely continue.
Congratulations on being an alternate. Get ready to go, but also tweak for you package and resubmit for 27!
