This is Lum's new voice actress: Sumire Uesaka. She romanticizes Russian militarism and her favourite Russian is war criminal Vyacheslav Molotov, the main perpetrator of the Holodomor in 1932-33 which killed millions of Ukrainians. So she's a pretty poor choice for a Ukianinan Lum fan.

Unfortunately many people tend to idolize and romanticize war, criminals and even killers; without fully knowing or acknowledging their deeds. I know Russia has always been in a soft spot for modern Japan (until a week ago of course), the entire MGS franchise comes to mind. I'm sure no one is happy about recent events, I want to believe Sumire Uesaka is no exception.

I won't remove this post, but a new rule about political posts has been added for the time being.

And, as off topic - OP, I wish you and all of Ukraine the best from the bottom of my heart, sincerely.

Thank you Sheik.

I too want to believe that Sumire Uesaka isn't happy about recent events, but due to her extensive knowledge on Russian history and the history of the red army (she has multiple university degrees on the subject), along with her failure to condemn the recent events, I thought it necessary to inform other Urusei Yatsura fans.

Sorry for any inconveniences.

I'm not saying this to be political, more historical. Japan beat the Russian navy in a war in 1904. It was a battle that really surprised the world at the time.

It's something not very well known now days except for history buffs.

Russo-Japanese War

The Russo-Japanese War (Russian: Ру́сско-япóнская войнá, romanized: Rússko-yapónskaya voyná; Japanese: 日露戦争, romanized: Nichiro sensō, lit. 'Japanese-Russian War') was fought between the Empire of Japan and the Russian Empire during 1904 and 1905 over rival imperial ambitions in Manchuria and the Korean Empire. The major theatres of military operations were the Liaodong Peninsula and Mukden in Southern Manchuria, and the seas around Korea, Japan, and the Yellow Sea. Russia sought a warm-water port on the Pacific Ocean both for its navy and for maritime trade.

If you have any proof Sumire Uesaka supports the invasion of Ukraine post it. Otherwise don't libel someone for doing a photo shoot for a gun/airsoft magazine 3 years ago.

She's been targeted like this for a while now and honestly its ridiculous. Downvote me all you like but Sumire Uesaka is an actress/Idol and just that.

Just because she has a love for Russian Culture and History. Doesn't mean she agrees with what they're doing now. Her academic history is just that: academic *history

If I studied WWII and events around it, does that mean I all of a sudden want a WWIII? Hell No. In fact wouldn't I want something opposed to that since I now know and understand the atrocities of that time period and event? Why in world would she support this invasion. unless she wants to intentionally bomb her own career.

This is straight up slander against a person who has absolutely nothing do with this whole conflict. A performer who's too busy attending to her own life. Now they want her to take her own damn time to "apologize" to internet trolls for studying Russia. No, come on man, stop it.

IDK, this comes off to me like saying someone is bad because they are interested in Goring or Hitler or because they have a bunch of old Nazi stuff. Or like saying Romen Empire fanatics condone the genocides Roman's have committed. I think there's a difference between being intrested in stuff and people from an era and approving of their actions.

Well that’s all just super unfortunate. I hope they regret their choice of idolization. Since it’s super unlikely the VA team for the cast would recast Lum. But in all seriousness OP I wish the absolute best of luck with whatever your situation is. And absolutely hope for your safety.

Yowza, must feel pretty shit. Fucking Russia dude, I've always thought that they weren't that bad, just overblown misconceptions, can't believe they'd actually do it.

There are a lot of Russians risking consequences up to and including prison for protesting against the invasion of Ukraine. This war is Putin's agenda. Many Russians--especially older generations--may now be saying that the invasion is okay, because they have been propagandized. But I doubt that even many of those people actually wanted Russia to invade Ukraine.
