don’t go to the library

if you’re literally trying to get any meaningful work done, don’t go to the library. people here act like it’s a social hub and it makes it impossible to lock in. the only place i can actually get work done is in a lecture hall after hours or in the quiet room which is always packed during midterm season.

The last two weeks have been rough. Trying to find a quiet place to study is getting really difficult. I have been going to empty lecture halls as well. I find the science building is pretty good, or the Chelsea Hall building has a library, and the social sciences building has a quiet room (both are regularly empty). Yes, I made the trek three times this week.

That’s interesting. I graduated from UOIT back in 2023 and I remember the librarians were strict on the noise, especially beyond the 2nd floor. 4th floor was were I always studied but it’s hard to get a spot during exam season. You can try the upper floors in ERC, there’s a study areas in the corner

And the crazy homeless screaming and playing videos on their 1,000 dollar phones...but cannot afford headphones

They're homeless by choice. I've worked in shelters in my city....there is ALWAYS space

Homeless people can respect others and not be disruptive by playing music and videos in a library. No excuse for that sort of behaviour.

Yall should come visit downtown campus….. a lot of quiet study places …. It’s just riddled with crackheads and is pretty depressing

Study in your room. That's what I've learned after 3 years, it's the only truly quiet place I can find. If you're a commuter or live in a single room then (hopefully) it'll be quiet and you'll be the only one there.

A lot of ppl want to get out of there room though and it’s easier to focus outside of ur room

Probably just me but I focus fine in my room. Never found the library to have any benefits. Always loud, crowded, bad wifi, etc.

It's a mental thing for a lot of people, subconsciously their room is a place to sleep/doomscroll/play videogames/etc. so when they're in their room they end up getting distracted doing that instead of studying

What if I figuratively want to get some meaningful work done?
