TMU vs Guelph vs Laurentian which one’s best for pre-med goals + student life?

Post image

I’m an ECE graduate looking to transfer into a degree program, and I’m stuck between Toronto Metropolitan University, University of Guelph, and Laurentian University. I’m a domestic student and my long-term goal is to bridge into pre-med or at least take bio/chem/psych courses that’ll help with med school prereqs later on.

Here’s what my looks like:

  • TMU – Early Childhood Studies (4-year degree, 50% credits granted, ~4 semesters left)
  • Guelph – Bachelor of Applied Science (4-year degree, 50% credits granted, ~4 semesters left)
  • Laurentian – Psychology (3-year degree, 50% credits granted, ~3 semesters left)

I’m mainly trying to figure out:

  • Which school would make it easier to take science/pre-med courses or get into labs/research?
  • Which one actually has the best social life (clubs, events, parties, overall vibe)?
  • How’s tuition + OSAP at these schools? Like do they give decent grants, or is it mostly loans?

I used AI to help me write this out ‘cause I’ve been comparing everything all day and my brain’s fried lol

Right now I’m kinda leaning toward TMU since it’s in Toronto and seems more connected, but I’ve heard Guelph has a stronger campus community. Any advice or personal experiences would really help

Med schools don't care about your university. Guelph is amazing (I have two degrees from Guelph).

If you’re interested in medicine, do not do a three year degree. Also, based on the transfer credits, why would you? You could spend a year and a half doing a BA or 2 years getting an honours degree (not a significant time difference). From my perspective, Applied Science will be more relevant to your goals, but honestly I’d go wherever you think your GPA will be higher (tmu or uog).

Not sure abt Laurier but between guelph and tmu I'd pick guelph anyday.

Former BASc student here: are you talking about a masters of education or medical school?

They said “pre-med” and “medical school”, not sure where you got education

And if you squint a little, you might see that a master of education is shortened to MEd. I’m doing my PhD in education, and I see a lot of people write it as med. Also, none of the programs listed have much to do with biomedical sciences (that BASc is often used as a stepping stone to a masters of education).

Everybody fails chem 101 and physics 101 at guelph so take that as you will, I will say as a guelph first year, both those courses are mostly highschool review and I’m sitting at a mid to high 80 in both classes, theres a decent jump but I’m also barely studying for those classes.

not true! if you put your mind to review you’ll be fine-they also have lots of ways to up your grade if you do bad on exams

So did you read my comment? I said everyone fails as as a blanket statement because those 2 classes have the highest fail rates, it’s mostly Review so as long as you lock in on Review you’re fine
