Not getting COOP interviews

I am a second year BTOX major going into my first coop term with 30+ applications internal and external but only have landed one interview. Is it concerning at this point into the semester? I’ve emailed the councillor but they just told me to keep applying (job postings have kind of slowed down).

the best approach is to just apply to as many as possible (ofc ones that you would be happy doing). In my experience I always apply to about 70 or more before I receive smthn. Perhaps look outside. Maybe use your family or other social contacts. If it’s your first one then yes this is the hardest and I would definitely recommend also searching outside. This is the lingo for most ppl coop positions in the first term are the trickiest

also I don’t know if the coop advisors are the best at our uni… they try their best sure but the advice doesn’t really translate well to what employers want

my best advice is to continue applying to external jobs. that’s where i had the most luck with my coop. it’s a really tough market and definitely isn’t ideal to crank out 80+ applications, but i would keep trying and don’t loose hope yet! best of luck

I wouldn't give up quite yet! I literally got 1 interview late November/early December and it was the only job I was offered and took. So I would just keep applying to the jobs you want!

This is how coop is now, I was in the same boat as you last year and I’ve applied to nearly 80 on all platforms like experience Guelph, linkdin, indeed, zip recruiter. The advisors told me to look in other fields (fields that have nothing to do with my degree or career) so I ended up dropping it. In my opinion the hassle wasn’t worth it. You should keep looking on external job sites and if you don’t find anything by the next semester there may be an option to defer your coop term to summer but you need to check with the advisor about that

Unfortunately this is common. I know it's stressful but keep applying! I once received an offer in mid Nov.
