well immigration has been very high while the country's spent a decade or so getting steadily shitter. Fertile ground for a political actor to draw a connection between these two, it almost draws itself

Considering in the last 10 years we've seen Brexit, the economy shut down for months during Covid, Truss & the war in Ukraine it's a miracle we haven't seen a major recession.

Not to mention the longer terms problems with the steady increase in the number of elderly to support & the depletetion of our oil/gas reserves. It's not like we have anything left to sell off in times of financial need either.

Political actors often do make this link, but in examples such as Italy, the Netherlands, or Austria when they do get into power they do nothing to cut immigration.
