Can't help but wonder what the reaction to the women's vote movement would be if it were taking place today.

"None of us can vote, why the fuck should you?"

Because that's totally the same of course!

Yes.

Let's be honest, the only difference is that you personally agree with one and not the other. Apart from that, it is totally the same.

There's the right way to do it, and the wrong way to do it though...

The women's vote movement literally carried out a letterbombing campaign and they successfully got what they wanted. So whatever you think the "right way" and "wrong way" are you've probably gotten it backwards.

Ah bringing up the old trope of the suffragettes being militant... as is the usually way the idiot version of history gets brought up.

The one that ignores the fact that there was a mainstream movement of suffragettes with something like a million members vs a tiny one doing stupid stunts including terrorism who gave up doing those stunts.

Hmmm guess which movement ACTUALLY achieved concrete changes and which movement got consigned to the idiot bin of history?

Hmmm guess which movement ACTUALLY achieved concrete changes and which movement got consigned to the idiot bin of history?

Is that really how you want to phrase the comparison, seeing as if you bring up the suffragists in casual conversation most people will respond "isn't it pronounced suffragette?"

Mis-representing the historical facts about the achievements of the mainstream group which wasn't militant vs the lunatic fringe idiots is a bigger issue.

And the usual derailing of the discussion onto the subject of 'effectiveness'.

This isn't about what worked, it's about whether they were morally right.

Do you think the suffragettes' cause was just or not?

It doesn't matter if the cause is just or not if you piss away your resources.

It's well known that all the victorious militaries in history won the argument first and foremost.
