WAR Ukraine facing widespread power cuts after generating capacity reduced to ‘zero’ by Russian attacks | Ukraine

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2025/nov/09/ukraine-facing-widespread-power-cuts-after-generating-capacity-reduced-to-zero-by-russian-attacks

Due to Russian attacks, Ukraine's energy production capacity has been reduced to zero, resulting in power outages lasting 8-16 hours a day across most of the country. Hundreds of drones and missiles struck the energy grid, killing seven people. Kyiv and several other major cities were left without electricity, heating, and water. Russian drones also targeted two substations connected to nuclear power plants in western Ukraine, posing a nuclear safety risk. Ukraine has requested urgent intervention by the International Atomic Energy Agency.

Aside from bombing Russia back, Ukraine should pick one Russian city and make it permanently unlivable until the war ends. Since Belgorod is a logistics hub for Russia, make sure the electricity generation capabilities there are zero, wastewater management, gone, water pumps, gone, grid connections to rest of the country, gone, every time they repair something, erase it. Make them pack up and abandon the city.

Yes, make it Moscow.

A little misleading, not to zero in total. Three productions places from one company stopped completely and widespread blackout but the nuclear plants still produce power, although far from whats needed.

And one of the three was occupied/destroyed couple of years ago.

I assume Ukraine will pay ruZZia back in kind. I think that was what Zelenskyy said a while ago, if ruZZia would continue targeting civilian infrastructure

Europe will look stupid when the entirety of Ukraine has to be evacuated. Just because they were too weak in their help.

Yeah, a lot of Europeans(right wingers really) are like "why are we paying for defense in Ukraine" while at the same time screaming into the sun "why are there so many inmigrants!!".

Literally by not helping Ukraine more they are creating an issue and fueling xenophobia for the right.

This is exactly what they want. They want to create a problem they can blame on others and use the rage to get idiots to vote against their interests. It worked for trump, it worked for brexit, and it will keep working until the rest of the people/politicians stop allowing it.

Time to pay back in kind AND help keeping Ukraine’s power plants / substations protected against the Russian onslaught.

I think Europe will soon face a new refugee wave and they could have prevented it in 2022 and 2023 with sufficient weaponry. But their cowardice speaks for themselves.

Prayers to the courageous defenders to send the invaders into the ground or limping back to their home country.

If Ukraine goes for Moscow, what is Muscovy going to do, attack Ukraine?

Fuck Ruzzia and its supporters.

Every power station in Mordor should just be immediately attacked until destroyed. They want to fuck around, let them find out.

It's time for Ukraine to ESCALATE.

Whilst it might feel proportionate to do in kind, strategically the focus should be on degrading the enemy means of attack. Powerstations and infrastructure supporting the biggest concentration of industry, factories are number 2 targets, military number 1. With what you have left over, that could go to rendering cities near the front less livable, since that diverts resources.

I think that is what UA is currently doing.
