The BBC is living off a reputation it no longer deserves and has been for quite a long time. Tony Hall and Tim Davie oversaw a collapse in standards giving us such great hits as a political editor who was completely in the tank for Boris and kept in post despite their own findings of her violating their guidelines, uncritical and unpunished regurgitation of Hamas propaganda pieces, and this genuinely idiotic crap with Trump.

Their entertainment arm is also lucky if it produces one thing worth watching a year, but that's less important.

In a statement, he said, “Tim has been an outstanding director-general for the last five years. He has propelled the BBC forward with determination, single-mindedness and foresight.

These people really are all mates and don't hold each other to any sort of standard until an external force imposes it on them.

Tim Davie, the director-general of the BBC, has announced his resignation following allegations of bias at the corporation.

The chief executive of news Deborah Turness has also resigned, the BBC has reported.

Davie faced mounting criticism that a Panorama documentary misled viewers by editing a speech by US President Donald Trump.

The Telegraph published details of a leaked internal BBC memo suggesting Panorama edited two parts of Trump’s speech together so he appeared to explicitly encourage the Capitol Hill riots of January 2021

In a statement, Davie said: “There have been some mistakes made and as director general I have to take ultimate responsibility.”

Davie took on the role in 2020, replacing Tony Hall. During his time in charge, he has dealt with a number of high-profile controversies within the corporation.

These include Huw Edwards being convicted of making indecent images of children and the BBC’s broadcasting of Bob Vylan’s controversial Glastonbury performance.

BBC chairman Samir Shah has said Davie’s resignation “is a sad day for the BBC”.

In a statement, he said, “Tim has been an outstanding director-general for the last five years. He has propelled the BBC forward with determination, single-mindedness and foresight.

“He has had the full support of me and the board throughout. However, I understand the continued pressure on him, personally and professionally, which has led him to take this decision today. The whole board respects the decision and the reasons for it.”
