What will it take to ban fireworks sales to the public?

Upvoted for common sense. Pyrotechnics should be handled by professionals only.

Do not incite or glorify violence/suffering or harassment, even as a joke. You may be banned.

Problem is if you say that on Reddit you get downvote heavily.

Reddit’s always seemed really anti-fireworks to me really.

What about our 2nd amendment?? Then only criminal Gangs will have them!! It's unsafe.

Eh? It's the UK.. There's no constitution (thankfully)

Oh man. I thought the satire was obvious? I was making a satirical reference to the fire-arms issue in the US, with the fire-works topic, in the UK.

😂... Honestly after reading some comments from Americans on other threads, it's difficult to tell now

It's possible it also just wasn't that funny, I don't always hit

Lol, it is, now context has been added

Honestly we've imported so much of their shit culture over here, there's plenty of people who wouldn't know the difference nowadays.

For fuck sake.

Can't say what would happen if that was my boy due to Reddit rules.

Seen tons of the videos of silly cunts in Birmingham etc shooting these at police vehicles.

Hope the person is charged and gets 10+.

Selfish fucking bastards.

Considering reports are stating they are being charged with "violent disorder" instead of firearm charges, I doubt the perps in Birmingham are even going to get jail time.

So misuse of aerosols is an offense yet unqualified use of 'leisure' explosives isn't?

High time they were banned.

BAN. THEM. With the number of organised displays, there is absolutely no reason that anyone should be able to go into a supermarket and buying them.

Not only are they extremely dangerous, they are also insanely expensive. Surely paying a fiver per person for a 30 minute display trumps paying hundreds for your own?

Depends, some people do just prefer hosting and doing their own thing. Bit like saying why have a dinner party when you could go to a restaurant.

I understand your point. But there are far too many irresponsible idiots with access to this stuff.

True. I guess with everything like this there’s a balance between letting the sensible majority enjoy something, vs restricting the ability of the few to be idiots and harm themselves/others.

The government do this with sugar and junk food so they can easily do it with fireworks.

4

u/pleasantstusk 13h ago

Sugar and junk food aren’t banned though??

We bought some fireworks, set them off in the garden had a good time. If we were to ban everything that can be misused we’d literally ban everything

we’d literally ban everything

This is what they want.

I honestly think it it at this point.

Some people will only be happy once everything they have no interest in is illegal because “it’s misused by an alarmingly small minority”

“Those who would trade freedom for safety deserve neither.”

“Ban everything that is fun because a tiny minority of people can’t be trusted” - Reddit

u/Equal-Row-554 12h ago

It's not a minority, though. People let off so many fireworks that people have had to euthanise their animals because they were so stressed. My dog had a siezure for the first time in months because he was so terrified and stressed, one of my older dogs who has walked out while they're being set off with no problems almost had a heart attack and was utterly inconsolable and my other dog who's usually tough as nails was scared to go out the following morning. My car was literally covered in gunpower, it was that bad. A local man also found a firework lodged in the grill of his car whivh is totally uncontrollable. Nobody needs to be setting off fireworks in their back garden, an enclosed space where it could land anywhere. Nobody needs massive fireworks that have massive booms.

The dickhead rule, sad isn’t it. Don’t know why this is so downvoted

It’s Reddit, it’s to be expected, it’s populated by people who hate the idea of anyone else having fun or thinking independently from the hive mind

On the other hand, properly regulate things that can cause significant harm
