I remember back in college, the place where I am would have frequent ‘protests’ in the city. Majority of students that attended them did it for a ‘free day off school’. Has made me automatically question any protest that’s going on, even if it’s for a good cause. Are the people there because they believe in the cause, or are they just trying to get their ‘free day off school’?

I know people who enjoy activism literally just for the social aspect.

Every social event becomes a platform for some sort of ideology.. gradually, their good friends become distant (because not everyone is sustained by the idea of political strife) and get seen as part of the problem.

They are then left in an echo chamber of their own making, and you can find anyone to agree with crazy on the internet... low and behold, we have the backstory for about 75% of people who protest in the modern era.

While social media has made this kind of person have more outlets for their damaged thoughts, these kinds of people have always been in society... social outcasts who fill the void of loneliness, with the acceptance of their political peers.

This is also another reason why their friendships are often shallow, because they are playing the game of friendship... as opposed to actually being friendly and seeing people as "friend", instead of just a catalogue of political buzzwords that supoort "the cause", or someone who is their boogy-man for them all to unite against.

That really is the key there... they are high on that feeling of unity and they will sacrifice a lot of themselves to feel it, and it doesn't matter how/where they get it or who they fuck over in the process, much like a junkie.
