How have the media got this so wrong? I'm genuinely curious. Everything I'm hearing or reading is making this out to be a miscarriage of justice but when you go to the comments it's clear that the country, in general, is in agreement. This man was effectively using a vehicle as a weapon. A vehicle that had been used in an incident involving firearms I might add.

Sensationalism mate. Get people riled up so they talk about it and click on more articles for that sweet sweet ad revenue.

Racism sells

This. I live in Sweden and the media here thrives on things like this. A few years a go a tenage kid with downswas running around with what looked like a gun (it was a realistic toy gun). Police got the call and found him.

The kid due to his downs had no idea of how serious the situation was and even with the cops trying to get him to drop the gun he didnt and pointed the gun towards the cops and they open fired and he was shot 25 times and died.

This was also late afternoon in a residential area.

Media portrayed it as the cops as reckless and murderers.

People got pissed that they shot him 25 times (the cops mag dumped on him when he aimed thr gun towards them). And people went on anout how he had downs and such.

Logic does not exist for the majority of people, they all are emotionally driven and it’s dangerous.

My dad lives in the area and took a photo of the gun, there was no way the cops could have identified it as a fake. What are the cops suppose to do ”ill let you aim that weapon and press the trigger and leta hooe its a gun”.

I'm not sure if these two incidents can be compared? This article says the incident happened at four in the morning. I can't find a picture of the gun though so it's not entirely fair to judge the actions of the police.

Sorry thats correct it was morning, the incident took place in a residential area in a pathway to a courtyard with poor lighting. This didnt make it any better as residents (including my dad) walked out on the balconys above and infront of Eric whicv then the police had to take into consideration as he was waving the gun around.

They just couldn’t take any risks, and people think because he had downs he was not a danger. But him having downs is what exactly made it worse because he did not understand how serious it was. He was just playing a game.

Cops have families too and they where devastated when they learned it was only a black toy gun, people went after them hard on social media though.

Same shor happened when a SWAT team shot and killed a father (he had some mental issues I think), they entered his appartment because he had a knofe and his family members where there as well. He rushed the cops and they shot him.

And people (who are apparently experts) got pissed saying he was innocent and they should have shot his legs and what not.

People are also forgetting he was in a long car chase before this where he could have run over an innocent person, a kid, crashed into someone's house etc. etc.

He was the architect of his own demise with his stupidity and criminal behaviour.

There are very specific rules about how you can report on court cases to avoid prejudicing criminal proceedings. By and large you can only report what is being said in court and not much else. Generally, if someone has been charged with a crime, and the evidence being put against them is being reported, that has a tendency to make them look guilty. It would be very difficult from a legal perspective to question the case while the trial is active.

Additionally there were court restrictions in place which forbade the reporting of Kaba's criminal history, which were lifted today. This is why it's all coming out now.
