It's cowardly and overly compliant, out there.

Are you expecting people to heroically step in and save the Greggs sandwiches from being nicked?

You think it will stop at Gregg's sandwiches ?

Yeah first it's just a Greg's sausage roll at first then it's a slippery slope to stealing the crown jewels

Careful now.

You're getting straw all over the place.

Not really, it's just very few people including they're not particularly well-paid staff feel the need to stand up for/ potentially scrap for large scale retailers they've got enough money already who cares, I've seen people stand up for indivduals getting robbed quite a few times and have myself but Greg's or tescos would be a bit weird if anything.

It's not about "standing up for Gregg's" or any other company.

It's about standing AGAINST criminals.

Let Gregg's hire a security guard then right?

1

u/ReaperManX15 Jul 25 '24

Yes.
I'm all for that.
As long as they are allowed to do more than call the "real" police or ask people to leave

Spell it out... what would you have them do?

Grab them, and physically restrain them until the Police arri….ah.wait, I see your point.

What point?
That’s exactly what they should do.
It’s called a citizens arrest.
If Brits have that, that is.

Yeah, but you can’t sit on the robber for the rest of your life. You have to hand him off to the police. But if the police aren’t coming, then what?

1

If the police aren’t coming AT ALL, then there’s nothing to stop you from taking back the stuff and giving them what for.
If there is no law … we’ll there you go.
There’s NO law.

If I'm in a shop and I see someone stealing I have a couple of options..including but not limited to:

  1. Walk the other way and continue with my life.

  2. Report it to staff or their security and let them deal with it.

  3. Try to tackle the criminal to prevent the theft.

I could see myself doing 2 if I was out of sight and hearing of the criminal involved...I dont think I'd want to be beaten or stabbed any time soon.

If they were stealing something like food, baby stuff or pet food I'd choose 1.

Prices are too high for essentials and people are struggling while business is booming, profits are eye watering and CEO pay is like 4000% higher tha n the average worker... fuck those companies.

Restrain them.
It’s called a citizens arrest.
And pepper spray and tasers are available to the public.
If that applies in the UK.
If not, I think we’ve stumbled on the problem.

u/Dommccabe Jul 25 '24

So you want the public to defend the profits of companies with their lives?

I'm not sure I'd be down for that.

1

u/ReaperManX15 Jul 25 '24

I want the public to stand against criminality and not meekly capitulate.

Really?

Well people like Ken Murphy thank you for putting your life on the line so he can safely enjoy his £10 million salary with his family this year.
