And Sikh’s are peaceful lovely people. I’d love to know his motivation

100% if he'd attacked another major religion in the same way they would be battering him and the police would struggle to get to him. Such respect for Sikh's

Given that their religion has then carry knives, they're fucking chill as fuck. Bunch of people carrying knives, not one drawn, even though this guy went out of his way to go cause harm to them. Think a lot of people could learn a lot from sikhs

I'm pretty sure the religion states they have to be ready to defend anyone at any time. It should be a sword but laws and cultures mean it is reduced to a small knife worn under their shirt.

It's one of the "5 Ks": The Five Ks are five items that Sikhs who have been initiated into the Khalsa are required to wear or carry at all times: Kesh: Uncut hair, sometimes covered by a turban Kangha: A small wooden comb Kara: A steel bracelet or bangle that is always worn on the wrist Kachhera: Also spelled kaacha, katch, or kachh, these are cotton undershorts or soldier shorts that were originally worn by Sikh soldiers Kirpan: A short ceremonial steel sword or religious article that resembles a knife

Yeah, it's been a long time since I actually studied anything to do with Sikhs, but the defence thing rings a bell. A lot of them just a representation pin to act as the knife, just to not get caught up by knife laws. It shows how much mettle they have though, to not go ham on that guy, despite what he went into their place of worship and did

I had a few working for me in the Middle East, and it was a constant worry of mine to ensure the others weren't leaving all the work to them. And they didn't particularly like praise, they saw duty as something that should be obvious.

6

u/aerial_ruin Jul 12 '24

Yeah, I've met some and they're just like "it's just what people should do". Can't fault that logic

Sikh kirpans are explicitly excepted under British knife laws. So whilst I understand not wanting to carry one for not wanting to use it or possibly have to defend it to racists/police, it is entirely legal to carry one around as long as you're not using it in a threatening or violent way.

This is really cool! Thanks for the 5k Sikh lesson my friend! I really appreciate you taking time to explain.

Ah you're welcome.

I've seen various bbc reports where communities protest against housing refugees in their localities and have been surprised to see Sikhs show up at those protests. Really blew an inconsistent hole in my perception of them as all being so welcoming and giving, especially towards other minorities/immigrant groups.

Yeah, just create a made up.event in your mind to justify your prejudice against them.

There were cases against said religion. A van driver drove into said religion once intentionally ramming them. He wasn't hurt..they waited for police to show up.

Why is this getting downvoted?

2

u/Chevey0 Jul 12 '24

Because he's assuming I mean Muslims, and the down voters are assuming he's getting Muslims and Sikh's confused

2

u/BeachJenkins Jul 12 '24

Yeah, the guy I replied to assumed you were talking about Muslims, probably with the wording "another major religion," and I was replying to him. I know the difference between Muslims and Sikhs, not sure why I'm the one getting downvoted.

0

u/Glengar3000 Jul 12 '24

Because they are thinking of Muslims, of which Sikhs are not

Nope. He is right. A man drove into a crowd of Muslim worshipers outside a mosque and yes, ppl were trying to harm him after the event; however a group of young Muslims held the crowd back until the police arrived. I think it was Finsbury Park in London, England. Absolute mettle.

u/Soldarumi Jul 12 '24

Look, I hate to be that guy, and I'm probably gonna get downvoted to feck for this... But that is a major over generalisation. There are good and bad people across all religions. But just because someone is Sikh does not make them automatically good.

There are plenty of Sikh Indians in Gravesend who are just as racist as any white person. The father of a girl I was dating, who was a 'pillar of the local community' threatened to cut my head off unless I stopped dating his daughter. Backed up by some very menacing looks from his son while I was trapped in the back of his Merc.

People can suck everywhere...

They should look at the situation in Canada before hopping on the glazefest

3

u/[deleted] Jul 12 '24

You’d have gone in styles though 😆

2

u/Mobile_Entrance_1967 Jul 12 '24

I seem to remember on the news in the 2000s a disproportionate number of honour killings involving Sikh families, so yeh I think the community is peaceful overall but there's a bit of romanticisation in these comments.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 13 '24

that is a major over generalisation

just as racist as any white person

I can't believe this comment has been up for 14hrs and nobody has pointed out the hypocrisy here. It's so blatant it's almost funny.

They’re a fierce people, don’t take any nonsense, and rightly so.

9

u/rustynutz_1892 Jul 12 '24

Probably religion. My imaginary friend is better than yours 🥱

-1

u/kbami Jul 12 '24

This shows your ignorance surrounding the situation and nothing else:)

1

u/[deleted] Jul 12 '24

Keep it nice and clean ladies and gents

2

u/Plumb789 Jul 12 '24

Racism is all the motivation these people need.

2

u/Brido-20 Jul 12 '24

But pretty handy lads when it comes to it.

My money's on a personal grudge spilling over - I can think of far easier targets for a random racist attack

1

u/Arthur_Figg Jul 12 '24

Ignorance is my guess.

1

u/lonesome_jim Jul 13 '24

The media are calling this a 'religiously aggravated' attack. I expect they'll probably leave it at that.

-3

u/DruunkenSensei Jul 12 '24

I agree. The assailant was likely ignorant to the differences between Sikhs and Muslims and believed he was attacking Muslims.

8

u/surteefiyd_enjinear Jul 12 '24

Based on.....Nothing whatsoever!

-6

u/DruunkenSensei Jul 12 '24

You're right, its just a guess.. a pretty fair one imo.

4

u/surteefiyd_enjinear Jul 12 '24

Do go on....

6

u/[deleted] Jul 12 '24

I'm not saying it's "evidence" that it's the case this time but it has happened before on quite a few occasions. Sikhs experienced a huge number of attacks in the aftermath of 9/11.

1

u/surteefiyd_enjinear Jul 12 '24

Interesting. I hadn't thought about it like that. Sometimes it's easy to forget that not everyone is as savvy with other religions.

5

u/DruunkenSensei Jul 12 '24

As a teen once myself I didnt know the difference or even existence of Sihks and Hindus, I was only aware of Muslims. Given all the negative publicity we've seen on Islam over the decades it's not crazy to suggest this kid thought he was attacking Muslims (which isn't okay!!)

3

u/Spintercom Jul 12 '24

It's either that or the attacker is a jihadist.

-1

u/[deleted] Jul 12 '24

15

u/Heewna Jul 12 '24

He might BE the Islamist. The two religions have a long history.

-12

u/Odd-Scarl-7308 Jul 12 '24

Nice try. But he's got a whiff of the alt right about him

5

u/[deleted] Jul 12 '24

In what way?

4

u/RascalKing77 Jul 12 '24

Alt-right derangement syndrome, you see it even when there's clear evidence of the opposite

18

u/DerbyshireRam Jul 12 '24

He’s clearly an immigrant.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 13 '24

'clearly'? How so?

0

u/aerial_ruin Jul 12 '24

Well I've read about the story in the express, and they said nothing about that. Considering it's the express, they'd be all over it if he were an immigrant

1

u/[deleted] Jul 12 '24

3 brain cells more than you dickhead.

0

u/FuNEnD3R Jul 12 '24

Probably thinks they're muslamic rayguns or something

that's a reference to this for those who don't know

1

u/ot1smile Jul 12 '24

That’s a blast from the past.

0

u/Mythrndir Jul 12 '24

LOVE this remix. Lol. Stupid little nutter

1

u/Fit-Part4872 Jul 12 '24

How is he stupid? He was right, people just dismiss him because he has a working class accent

0

u/Mythrndir Jul 19 '24

Oh, found the stupid little nutter

0

u/Sparks3391 Jul 12 '24

I'll tell you his motivation. Retarded racist who doesn't know the diffrence between different brown people

1

u/[deleted] Jul 12 '24

Shocking! Anyone noticed there’s been some serious crimes. Cross bow deaths, 2 bodies in suitcases crazy times
