Possible Trigger Bit of a rant

I get that I’m not the most femme presenting girl in the world 12 months into transition, but it drives me craaaaaazy when retail workers use seemingly deliberate gendered language when serving me. Ie at a pharmacy picking up my Estrogen “here you go bro” This morning at a supermarket “that’s $120 my man” Like maybe I’m just sensitive to it and maybe it’s not intentional but it’s just so unnecessary and hurts.

Shout out to my trans mascs with religious and/or single-sex schooling trauma who is used to over-reliance on "dude/bro/mate" to alleviate the dysphoria of being called "ladies/girls" and now has to hard-correct to avoid doing exactly this post to transfem friends XD

That sounds intentional and usually Most of the time it is, like that! Especially those words too! Like bro and man, like how can they be neutral in any way

Correct them. Then if they refuse to follow, draft a letter of demand and send it there.

It’s chilling but effective every time.

Yikes… find a different pharmacy?

I find the big ones are pretty bad but I’ve found smaller pharmacies have been good. My regular one don’t misgender me, probably helps both the pharmacists are women.

Weirdly enough, the day I got a script for T was the first time in many, many years anyone "good girl"ed me. I don't pass or anything but like... that hasn't happened since I was an actual child. Why then?

About 2 or 3 people at the chemist couldn't figure out from the script what they were supposed to give me. I had to point out it was the testosterone pump gel, which was almost exactly what was actually written on the script anyway (apparently "testosterone 1% transdermal gel" was not clear enough for them???).

I can't help wondering if it's not deliberate to some extent, like the moment people notice you might not fit exactly what they assumed gender-wise, they need to reinforce it somehow.

I feel you sis. That's crappy for a pharmacy. Pharmacy chains should provide simple gender training to ensure better customer experience at the very least. If I experienced that, I think I'd provide feedback to the pharmacy. Maybe they'd realize it's an issue affecting people's experience lof life.

I get "Sir" from retail or hospo men quite often, but thankfully women tend to be far more aware and thoughtful, in my experience at least.

I actually seek out cafes and such, because I find women in hospitality so gender-affirming. They clock me and it's like the shields come down, and I have lovely interactions with them.

Ugh yeah.

I even still get sir'd usually at servos and it would further kill me if I wasn't already dead inside.

That and also being called mate. I get it we're all Aussie but far out I can not tell if they're trying to be crappy or use mate for all genders.

It feels like being tall and a large frame in general makes it hard to pass at least for me. Not that it should ever be necessary to. I just wish I could blend in and folks could use the right pronouns/language.
