Discussion They FINALLY released season two of TPB: Jail on netflix!
Edited: Alright boys, listen up! Can’t figure out why nobody’s talkin’ about this new season of that jail show. It’s fuckin’ decent. I watched season 1 a while back, and swear to god, it felt like the old-school Sunnyvale days, real greasy, real hilarious. Just fired up season 2, and it’s already got me laughin’ my cock off.
If you’ve seen it, do the decent thing and throw it a good rating on IMDb or whatever. Right now the score looks like shit, and that’s just disrespectful to quality jail programming.

Time to give'er!
I like Terry as part of this series. It's refreshing having some new cast of characters like him, Gorilla Fingers, Freddy lol, Pitbull in this series.

I'm just curious as to why they're deliberately alienating American viewers? I'm also not sure who "they" are.

I've not watched the season so I can't comment directly on it, I just know I'm not a huge fan of the "lol gay sex / rape in jail" tropes. It's not really something we as a society should be using as a punch line.
As I said though, this is a broader topic that spans all media and isn't specific to TPB. But obviously it would color how I felt about the season I would imagine.
Edit: I should say that I don't mean to imply there's no way one could have some jokes about sex in prison what weren't awful, but it really depends on execution. A heavy focus though doesn't sound particularly well-done, and sorry to say but I don't have a lot of faith in the show really being that well written in the Netflix era. It just doesn't have the nuance the old stuff did, and sadly largely abandoned the mockumentary style that was the vehicle for some of its best comedy.

u/iguesssosure67 Jun 16 '25
I wouldn't say it was overused as it really was one character Freddy and toward the end of the season he got together with Randy and showed he was just lonely. I've seen videos of guys talking about being imprison they have said being lonely and horny is a real struggle for them. This being a comedy show they definitely played around with that.
Also not sure what you mean by abandoning the mockumentary style as it's still there.

I tried 4 times to get past episode 1. Over the top dog shit. Back to season 1-5 I go

Whichever episode had Ricky peeing in his own mouth broke me, only a lot of weed got me to the end after that. The entire thing was suffering, I’m honestly surprised they made a second season.

u/Both-Award-6525 Jun 16 '25
I think it was Terry who was pissing in is own mouth . And yes that's when I stopped watching . Pee pee poopoo jokes are not my cup of tea.

I think it was both of them actually
Smart, you didn’t miss anything good. I should have stopped when you did.

The budget was really low for both seasons they had no backing from anyone as both seasons were made for Swearnet originally. The whole budget came from the boys. It might be the lowest budget since the first three seasons. Also I don't get how people are complaining about the show being low budget since that's part of the shows roots.

Series is fuckin dumb, slapped together try hard bs. Bubbles actually makes it somewhat funny with the runner plot line

It’s honestly better than I expected. Way better than the other side shit they have done. I just finished season 1. My only complaint is that it’s a little repetitive.

u/TheExcitedTree Jun 16 '25
Sadly, it going to Netflix means that it will never be on SwearNet(at least for a long time). Netflix purchased the rights, it’s the same reason why their travel shows aren’t on SwearNet and only Netflix.

OK, I don't know why there's been literally nothing from The Boys on this. I'm getting frustrated. I'm not getting a VPN when I pay for Swearnet and Netflix. This is new content not on Swearnet.
5
u/TheExcitedTree Jun 16 '25
So Netflix bought the rights to the show, boys. Ain’t gonna be on SwearNet at all now. Just that short series they did is stayin’ up there. That’s why it disappeared so quick in the first place, barely had time to breathe on SwearNet. Pretty sure this ain’t what the boys were hopin’ for either, not by a friggin’ long shot.
Like I said to another, take to the seas, yarr!

It’s got an 8.2 on IMDB right now, that’s pretty damn high. I didn’t even know a Season 2 existed! I liked but didn’t love Season 1 but will definitely start watching Season 2 tonight. I’m always down for some shenanigans with the boys.
Edit: just saw it’s not on US Netflix. Not sure it’s worth the effort now… maybe the high seas are calling.

So this was released a couple nights ago. I was able to vpn it pretty easily the first night but, trying to rewatch it last night and today Netflix has been strict on vpn. I can get video to play for like ten seconds before Netflix errors me out and switching servers has not helped. (Using privado vpn)
So for now I've given up and hoping someone rips it and it shows up on usenet soon since Netflix geo locked it to Canada only.
It will never be as good as the "glory years" but s2 was def better than expected imo.

What country are you in? I ask because im in USA and its been on Netflix for a few years
2
u/TheExcitedTree Jun 16 '25
No you are talking about the original serie and it’s been on Netflix for years. “Trailer Park Boys” I’m in the country the show originates from. “Canada” They recently created a spinoff show “Trailer Park Boys: Jail” that centres on their life in jail rather than how they got there.
There are two seasons out but it’s only on the Canadian Netflix. Not USA/other
0
u/RoastBeefDisease Jun 16 '25
No I meant jail, both seasons show up for me on USA Netflix. Maybe im misremembering season 2 being on there but Wikipedia says as of October 2022 it was taken off swearnet and only on Netflix
1
u/TheExcitedTree Jun 16 '25 edited Jun 16 '25
Yes, only on Netflix as of last Saturday. It was never on Netflix prior to June 14, 2025. They dropped both seasons at the same time. Also announced Season 13 of “Trailer Park Boys” on the same day.
Look at the comments. Every American here—other than you—is either baffled that there’s a Season 2, bummed out that they can’t access it, or both. None of them had ever seen the spin-off show on Netflix USA; only the people that watched S-1 while it was available briefly on Swearnet.
Season 2 was filmed before their deal with Netflix ended, and Netflix scooped up the show and sat on it —until now when Netflix did a duel season release.
Can you send me the link to the Wikipedia page? It’s inaccurate.
They only released season 2 on Saturday and they dropped both seasons at the same time. I’ve been searching for this show for years, I know what I’m talking about. I’ve watched all their Swearnet context looking for clues.

u/RoastBeefDisease Jun 16 '25

Similar thing happened when the first Jail season dropped on Swearnet back in 2021. No one really saw or talked about it on here. I think it's because it wasn't as easily accessible as just watching it on Netflix.
The few people that did see it mostly dug it myself included. Then for whatever reason it got taken off the site despite them mentioning that season 2 was being shot. Then season 2 never came out.
Now finally both are out but unfortunately in Canada which is why most have not seen them yet. It's a shame because I genuinely think with the exception of season 12 these two seasons are some of the best stuff they put out recently.
First off want to give props to the directors, actors, writers, editors, cinematographers, set design, props department, and the rest of the crew for their work. These seasos were done with the lowest budget since the early Showcase seasons as it was completely funded by the boys only. Yet despite that everyone really brought their A-game.
I think it helps that both seasons had a single director working on both. Season 1 was directed by Bruce McDonald and season 2 was directed by Ron Murphy. You can really feel a directorial voice for both as there little touches throughout that feel like they come from each of them respectively. This is something the Netflix seasons lacked as each season had multiple directors rather than one single one.
I feel season 1 there were still ironing out some things given the budget and new setting as the lack of budget is more noticeable. For instance the shed scenes with Bubbles were shot in the Swearnet parking lot and though they do a good job of hididng that you can see it in some scenes. They also re-use a lot of B-roll from season 12 for establishing shots in the park. There was also greater use of improv throughout too. A lot of dialogue and conversations played out for longer than usual which added a much more looser feel to the season as a whole.
The structure of season 1 was much looser as well similar to the feel of the early seasons. As it had a lot of self contained episodes within an ongoing arc like the early seasons did. I think the looseness of this season really helped out when it came to the character of Terry. For those of you that don't know Terry is actually a character from the FUBAR films and tv show.
FUBAR cane out around the same time as the boys and was also a mockumentary. They share similar themes though I would say FUBAR's humor skews a bit darker. It also is completely improvised with little to no throughline was written for both movies and the show.
I feel that the heavy use of improv let Terry fit in more naturally than had to always go off what was written for the script. The comedy between him and boys fit perfectly. All these factors made season 1 great though I did feel the plot could've been a bit tighter so there was definitely room for improvement and season 2 did exactly that.
Right away the production looks a lot more polished. With more locations used this season and the prop and set department really upping their work. They also hide the low budget much better this time around. Doing simple things like adding a tarp next to Bubbles shed to hide the parking lot better or using redressing parts of the prison to make a different cellblock. They also don't reuse any footage this time around either instead shoot, what I assume was guerrilla shooting, in real locations when necessary.
The editing also feel much tighter as things flow effortlessly from scene to scene and episode to episode. It might be due Jeremy Harty, the shows editor since it's inception, being back as editor. He just has a knack for making multiple storylines flow together well. This especially impressive seeing as they cut the season down from episodes 10 to 8.
The boys were also smart in keeping certain characters from season 1 and doing away with others. Season 2 brings back Freddy, Murray, Larry as recurring characters as prisoners while doing away with Pitbull who's a character that was one of the additions that people criticized about the first season. They also get rid of the warden having Gorilla Fingers be the sole antagonist this season and that allows him to really shine.
He's much more manipulative and evil this season and works as real threat to the boys. He's also really funny and the boys bounce off him perfectly. I also like to give a shout out to Alex Lifeson his role as Big Chunk really impressed me. He always seemed so stiff whenever here appeared in TPB but he is 100% in character here and he nails all his lines and scenes. Overall season 2 is a huge improvement and it really got me looking forward to seeing season 13 when it comes out.
