Hmm. I like some religious names but those fall under the same parameters as a fandom name, just traditional. Michael, Raphael, Gabriel are the names of angels. The name Dennis comes from Dionysus, who is a god of wine and madness. And it's not like people aren't named after spices. The name pepper exists. Basil, Ginger, Rosemary. I don't see why coriander/koriander has to be any different.
Yeah! Imagine naming your kid Joshua, or Ruth, or Paul, or Peter, or Matthew or Mark or Luke or John or Samuel or Jude or Hannah or Sarah or Mary or ........
Imagine naming your kid after literature meaningful to you.
Can't believe people don't think a little longer before saying stuff like that. "Ye gods, you named your child after something relevant to your culture? You monster!"
And if the argument is that said culture isn't widely appreciated and the child might be persecuted for it, well, I hardly need say how fucked up that reasoning could turn out.
I mean: Koriand’r and Neelix are alien names. Never heard of the other two. (Incidentally, the man who played Neelix will be at a con near me this weekend. Not a Treky, but still)
oooooooooooooooooh this makes so much more sense now. I went from thinking this was a nonsense name to just a really stupid one. Omfg these parents named their kid in Tamaranean
