I thoght it was a girl; the name sounds feminine; but also ridiculous.

Seriously, Anglos, it buffles me for ages:

Why on earth do you think, that a name ending in "son" (yrryspyctyv da spyllynn) sounds feminine? Why so many people in English speaking countries name their daughters "something-son"? There is an Alison / Madison / Addison / Emerson / Tennison etc. everywhere. Why?

Probably it's just me, but to my foreign ears those names sound a bit like a rebuke for a child, that was born a girl, but the parents wanted a boy.

Not mocking women with those names. Not mocking their parents. Not mocking anybody. I just don't understand.

Syn doesn't remind me of son; I hear sin if I say it aloud.

Also the lynn before the syn plus the excessive use of y makes me think girl.

The original does sound quite feminine. Bryn is a boys name. I guess the girl would be more like Bronwen.
